First off, i like going to Costco. Sale priced items are at their best for bulk items! And their employers all seem to smile and are uper friendly. I NEVER like to complain about anyone, but sometimes people take their bad days along with them to their job. In this case, a woman by the name of AMY is just an insensitive person. I asked about a photo i paid for for an event that took place a while ago. I've asked for it a few times before closer to the event date and somehow no one seems to have anything organized for photo because they weren't able to find it. Mind you, I paid for it not caring whether it was going to the event, hospital, red Cross, etc., so I didn't just go give these people money for no reason...I was paying for a picture. It didn't matter where the proceeds went. So seeing they mispaced it or whatever the case, I asked about it again after time, and this lady AMY comes already with this I don't care face. I'm being polite, seeing I was raised to respect my elders, and asked what happened to my picture. She, with her careless, unsympathetic and unfriendly attitude just looked at me to say they threw it out. She said they did "everything" they could to get people to come pick up those pictures . And i asked her what exactly was that and all she said was call if they lefta number. I NEVER recieved a call, let alone a voicemail. "Everything" they could??? They had our member numbers and information, wheres my phone call to either number provided or mailed in courtesy letter or even mailed in picture????? How did this woman believe she did everything she could? Sams club has a section in their store where if they cant get a hold of anyone or for whatever the reason time has passed, they don't throw their customers paid for items away. They truly value their customers. Who puts a woman in charge of any event with a bad persona. What she did do was make her life easy and throw them away without caring about their customers feelings or their gratitude of giving money to this AMY person for a picture that could've been taken with a phone for free instead. All she cared about was getting the money and not caring about anything after that. I then proceeded to ask if I can get remburst. At this point she looked even more fraustrated like as if helping a customer is not in her job discription. She said no because it was a donation. Ok. And continually proceeded to remind me it was a past event, like I didn't understand and that oh well already about what my problem is because the event already past. Super rude. And no apologies either. People like her shame the store as a whole, because who wants a membership in a store with people who are...
Read moreI have been a Costco member for 7-8 years now. I've been understanding about the recent changes to prevent the misuse/abuse if memberships and, up to now, have not had any negative experiences.
This evening I was left disgusted and appalled and feeling extremely disrespected. I went to the North Riverside location with another person who has a separate membership, and we shared a cart for our items. When we were finished, we went to the self checkout and waited in line. Two adjacent registers opened and we each approached one to pay for our items. I was purchasing 2 large bags of dog food, so I asked the young man at the self checkout to scan them for me. He seemed confused and asked which register we were at and I pointed out that I was at the front and my companion at the middle. He then refused to allow me to use a separate register because we had shared a cart. I explained again that our transactions were completely separate and he replied "Yeah, but we're going to let other people use one register and you can use this one..." Once again, we have separate memberships. We were both shocked and upset by this treatment. I had 4 items and intended to go to the food court to make a purchase after checking out, but instead had to wait for my companion to finish before I could check out. I decided against spending more money in your store because of this, and, if I hadn't been so thrown off by the shock, I probably would have put everything back and taken my business to another location.
I definitely will not be returning to this Costco location and I'm contemplating switching my dogs' food before December so that I don't have a reason to renew this membership. I guess Costco staff is so unhappy about having to police memberships that they feel they need to treat everyone like they are doing something wrong. This is the worst customer service I've received at Costco. The younger staff member who was working self checkout at 6:30pm, 10/11/24 needs to be retrained or taken out of public...

My wife and I had agreed to get a membership about a year ago. Seeing that we were living in Texas at the time for work purposes. We returned to Chicago and I now do most of the grocery shopping however the membership was registered to her. Well unfortunately the joke was on me. They require her to be present though she works 5-6 days out of the week.
If a membership is to encourage loyalty to purchasing with Costco why is use of the membership so draconian? They're saying that regardless of the household each person would have to be present and accounted for like a giant shopping cult? If we had a teenage and they needed to purchase something, we couldn't simply lend them the card to purchase items on our behalf?
The reality is Costco makes most of its profits off our membership. And they're going to keep getting worse in an attempt to maximize profits. We're the product and consumer for them. Their deals aren't really deals, they're to lock us in to stifle competition. Thus push out local businesses by claiming their deals are for us. Unfortunately, they're getting the deal.
TLDR; Costco profits off our membership. We're being duped into paying for a deal so they build loyalty to undercut competition.
And Jewel Osco is better and...
