This is a very lovely dog park if you are fortunate enough to find it open. The slightest bit of rain will shut it down, for days if not weeks. They also shut down the watering stations long before the weather freeze warnings start, after their month shut down in October to grow grass. If anyone complains that your dog is acting up, the dog police are on it valid or not. Seems a little inquiry into understanding the motives of the complaints should be explored first. No toys of course, although if any of the dog police came and observed long enough they would see how the toys actually serve to keep the dogs busy and more compatible. I go to the dog park to enjoy the social aspect of the owners as well as the dogs and have found friendship, support, and positive efforts to work together to keep the overall experience of the dog park a special place. We bring water when the park turns it off, pick up poop that others have left behind, help with new owners and dogs that need socializing or extra attention. Amidst the shutdowns, we meet up at other parks close by when we cannot go to our own. Rowlett is not the prettiest park, but it is always open, has a friendly atmosphere, and plenty of water and fun for all, muddy or not. Wylie opened its new park just this past week while we were...
Read moreI've been going to the last few weeks and have really enjoyed it. I have a dog breed that is very high energy and takes hours of exercise to wear out. The people have been great! Yes, you always have the person who doesn't know how to handle their dog(s), or pay attention well. However, that's been a rare occurrence only happening once since I've been going. With that said, everyone else does a good job of it. Everyone is friendly and typically keeps a good eye on, not only their dog(s), but also yours. I feel this is just good practice. Meaning, watching your dog is only part of the process. You must also watch the other dogs and people and this goes for any occasion, not just dog parks. The only down fall is the big dog side gets a lot of wear and the grass has a hard time growing in a patch in the middle. This is because it's shaded and gets lots of use, which is great.
All in all, this is one of the best dog parks that I've been to and there's always been other people there so my dog has had a...
Read moreSo the only downside to this awesome place is that if it's rained at all in the past few days they close the dog park. However there are tons of walking trails and a little pond. Beware after rain though as I saw a snake nearby that area. I believe it was a water moccasin but I'm not sure. They have two separate areas with a fix in between for little dogs/puppies and then a bigger area for bigger dogs. I really like that there's just a fence between the sections. It is really useful if you are concerned about introducing your dog for the first time like I was. Also it is great for introducing two dogs for the first time to see if they're ok with playing around each other. It also has a water fountain for humans and dogs. Another great feature is the gate. When you first walk in there's the outer gate, then the two for the separate areas. It is secure in cause your dog is a runner lol. All in all it's great. I'm definitely...
