I was floored by this museum. There are 3 fully furnished houses to visit & Ms Marci spent an hour giving my son & I a tour, patiently working around my questions & the attention span of my toddler. It is STACKED with cool, old tools & very well preserved articles. All of the staff are incredibly friendly & seemed happy to work there. They were passionate about what they do. Personal niche favorites: uranium glass, 1930s refrigerator, laundry agitator, period clothing, foot pump dentist drill, The Rockwall, & the staff. Unlike other similar places, there is no barrier between visitors & the items, which offers an environment of trust, which I hope they maintain for many years. It was a unique experience for me. I was surprised to learn so many new things, as I am a total dork for this kind of stuff, & know more than most normal people about these things. 🤣 There's even a brick collection for folks who are brick fanatics. As a daytime, there is a MASSIVE, astro turf padded playground right next to it and a beautiful, shaded creek to picnic under. This is a stellar place to bring the family for a whole afternoon, whether you live nearby or are visiting from out of town. Ps. They have chosen to remove Confederate articles from the main showroom floor & keep them in a chest. I found this to be particularly sensitive & considerate of them. It was appreciated, as these are important historical pieces, but they cause great distress for many. Similarly, there are big, heavy cotton gathering bags, which you'll have the opportunity to lift & feel the weight of, as well as a field of cotton, which will show you how deep One has to stretch over and over again to harvest. Great thanks to Rockwall for providing such a significant window into Our collective American past....
Read moreTouring the Manson-LaMorreaux-Hartman house was neat and the tour guide was so knowledgeable and accommodating. I was impressed with the number of artifacts and historical knowledge that was contained within the walls. Sadly, we could not tour the house next door due to a foundation issue, but hopefully it will be available to see again soon. I am glad that I was in town and able to tour it on one of its open days. Getting to pick cotton out back is an...
