Uptown Bridal & Boutique — Attraction in Rolla

Brides who bought their dress elsewhere, please be advised that this place is just not it when it comes to alterations. I went in with my dress yesterday and I needed help zipping it. I admit that when we purchased the dress it was a tight fit, but the seamstress/bridal consultant at uptown didn't even attempt to zip it up. This was only the first of the issues. I asked to wait to start the alterations appointment until my mom was present as she would be able to zip the dress to which the seamstress replied "it doesn't matter if you mom's here or not, the dress will not zip", my mom proceeded to zip my dress once she got there. Before the dress was zipped the seamstress looked at me and said " what do you want to do about THIS" (me "not fitting" the dress) and I just looked at her waiting for the options. Then she said we couldn't add a corset back because the dress material was "too cheap", this dress was $2,000 from vows bridal in Columbia Missouri. We got it zipped up and I asked that sleeves be added to which I was told no, and a hem, which also resulted in a no. My dress left with no alterations at all. Then my mom had her dress looked at, she simply wanted it hemmed to a high-low style so she wouldn't be stepping on it while dancing, the seamstress told her that she "wouldn't do that" because of the chiffon material (which is the material of every basic bridesmaid dress) and recommended a different seamstress (Man of the cloth here in rolla) so we took her suggestion and went there which is where we found out that basically uptown bridal only alters dresses they sold themselves and that she "didn't want to do anything to our dresses because she didn't sell them herself", which Is what I asked uptown bridal before making the appointment to which they said they would work on dresses not sold in house.

During the appointment at uptown bridal I was body shamed, my dress was called cheap, there was actually 0 attempt to help me put on my dress, any opinion I asked for was "thats up to you" and left unanswered, the seamstress had no options as to how to work on any of the things i needed help with and to top it off we were told they "weren't suppose to be taking more appointments" though I had called 2 months before and was told to "call again in march" to schedule my bridal dress fitting for my wedding in june. My appointment was March 21st 2024, The issues we faced may have been due to the company being down a seamstress during prom and wedding season, but nonetheless it was extremely unprofessional and rude. We have been coming to uptown bridal for years for my brothers prom tuxes and even to look for prom dresses. Needless to say we won't be back and will choose elsewhere instead.

I used to live here in Rolla, we have since moved to Florida but were back in town and I figured I'd take advantage of having some free time and see if I could find a dress for our quickly approaching wedding. I called in and spoke to Jessica who was so sweet and accommodating from the very beginning. She was so fun to try on dresses with and she really made the whole experience so wonderful. She let me know up front they weren't currently taking dedicated appointments, so she did see a few customers while she helped me but she was so attentive and helpful it really made no difference at all, and actually I think having extra time In the dresses helped with my decision. We chatted a bit upfront about what I wanted and the dillemas that have been keeping me from finding a dress. The shop has a great selection of stunning dresses. We looked through the styles and pulled out what I liked as well as a few suggestions of her own (which were spot on) She made me feel beyond comfortable when trying everything on, which as a pluss sized bride, speaks volumes! I truly cannot say enough great things about my experience today. Even if I had not found a dress I had a wonderful experience with Jessica, and really fun time, I would highly recommend booking your visit with her! I've been to a few different shops and this was BY FAR the best experience I've had. I finally found my dress!! there was a small pull that I noticed while trying on, at no extra cost alterations looked over the whole dress and made sure all the details were all in good shape. I came back in the following day to Pick up my dress which was ready for me in a beautiful pink rose detailed bag. I took two suit jackets in to have the arm length on the sleeves adjusted and remove shoulder pads from one. I will not be taking anything back to be altered. The customer service was less than pleasant. I told them that I would need them back within a week which they said that they could do, but I had to call and follow up the day before I told them I needed it done. When I got the jackets back, one of them wasn't even completely sewn back up on the inside and the sleeve lengths were uneven.
