We had just come off a 2-day canoe trip on the Current River and we were hungry. We sat down and moments later, Wilson, our most gracious server came and took our orders. I asked and he suggested a burger from their menu as well as explained the taste of our beer selections. He was very patient in spite of all our peppering him with questions and did not seem hurried, although i am sure we weren't his only customers. Less than10 minutes pass and he delivered our orders. I can truthfully report it was one of the best burgers I had ever had. (And I'm coming from Fairfield IA where a certain establishment is located named for having the Best Burger in Iowa and mentioned in Spoon University, USA today, Food Network etc.). I got to chatting with our courteous waiter, Wilson, who told us his story, that he was working to help pay for his college tuition to get into medical school. In short,, his story was truly inspiring. So inspiring that both my friend and I leave without picking up our credit cards which we didn't realize until we were half way to Iowa the next day. I called Wilson. He mailed back our cards the very next day. I wished him good luck and that I hoped we meet again in the future. Even if you're just passing through Rolla,, I wholeheartedly recommend trying Hoppers Pub's beer and burgers. Dave...
Read moreI've never felt more unwelcomed to a bar/restaurant in my life. Understandably due to COVID-19, kitchens close early so proper cleaning can be done, there is no fault there. But 4 of us were sat ourselves down on 1/12 to have a few drinks and enjoy a dinner. A male server (not revealing name) acted like he owned the place and controlled what happens in the front and back of the restaurant. He walked up to us and asked if we were just drinking or if we were eating. We let him know that we were eating, but his facial expressions turned south and his attitude changed. He told us that the kitchen closes in 15 minutes so if we want to order we need to make it quick. We felt bad as we were un aware, but was shocked by his behavior, but proceeded to order almost as soon as we sat down. The waiter closed out our tab and gave us our tickets before our food even arrived (we even only ordered appetizers instead of a meal because we felt bad for coming so late in the evening) making it impossible for us to order another drink if we so wished. Another crucial piece of information is we were NOT the only people there, there were other people seated, dining in, and enjoying their time there not being pressured to pay or leave by said waiter. I do not recommend eating in at...
Read moreOccasionally it is difficult to recreate a pub's ambiance and replicate the original location when operating a satellite location. This wasn't the case for Hoppers Pub on Rolla's Pine Street- formerly Route 66. The pub's original location is on Route 66 in nearby Waynesville and the owners paid exemplary attention-to-detail when building out this second location. This location includes the successful 66 beers on tap that launched the original into icon status to Mother Road enthusiasts. The food and beer menus are the same at both locations. My go to on the food menu is the Jam Burger. My longstanding favorite on the beer menu is Piney River Black Walnut Wheat. Hoppers Pub offers a punch card that documents your journey through the 66 taps- a punch for each different beer ordered. Your completed punch card inscribes your name on the hall of fame plaque. The beer menu can be overwhelming to some---simply tell your bartender which beer you drink at home and they will get you settled into a beer comfortable with your style. Craft beer fans will appreciate the amount of brewers represented across the tap. I expect Hoppers Pub to become a St. Pats tradition beginning with the...
