I come here often, things are fine for the most part, however there are a few things that stick out to me that should be addressed by management.
-Many staff don't speak English, which is fine, however it makes it very hard to ask questions to where to find certain things. I know they're probably trying their best, but many times they just stare at me or just walk away.... This has happened more than 20+ times when I've shopped there.
-The meat selection is good, however everytime I pick up a pack of meat, I end up getting blood or a watery liquid on my hand.. Either there's not enough absorbing pads in the pack or something is off with the meat because it is VERY WATERY/LIQUIDY.
-There are A LOT of items in the store that doesn't have a price tag! Either it fell off or it just wasn't priced. This is so frustrating because most of the time I don't know how much the things I'm picking up costs! There are no price checks so I just hope that at checkout it's not too out of my price range.
-This place is not as sanitary as it could be. A few years ago this place was shut down by the city due to how unsanitary it was! I often see mice scurrying around too. Beware! However, I have noticed how it is a bit cleaner now compared to how it used to be, despite it not being as clean as...
Read moreThe biggest benefit is this place is close to me. If I need an Asian food item in a pinch, they are good to go to. My biggest problem is that there are other stores that have what I need which this place doesn't have. The biggest draw back: the store smells like gross fish and meat. I lived in China as a child and this place is pretty bad in terms of the smells. Some days are better than others but I always feel apprehensive of getting any meats there due to the smells coming from the meat counter and display. I do have to say that they make a cheap, well made and delicious Bahn Mi that I like to get from time to time. The spring rolls are okay. Their other deli offerings are not really that great though. I wish I would like this place more since it is so...
Read moreCentrally located at Maryland and Rice Street, this medium sized Asian market. It especially caters to southeast Asian communities like Cambodia Myanmar, Karen, Laos, Thai, Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia, well-represented in the neighborhood.
The fresh produce and meat departments are very well provisioned, at competitive prices. One highlight is a kitchenette in the corner where many ethnic dishes are prepared fresh and hot, salads are chopped fresh, sandwiches are rolled and deep fried meats still steaming are wrapped for sale, alongside the usual Asian snacks and kueh.
Staff are generally very helpful, polite and friendly. Your checkout experience will be quick and modern and...
