Update: it's been a year since I have been here, and it's disgusting. Garbage every where in the water and out of the water. The water is filthy and has an oily layer on top. I think with how many people come here people need to be held a countable for there garbage and other items. There should be a park official coming around to least check on the will being of the area. I was saddened to see how down hill it's gotten.
The pond is not as dirty as it used to be, there are still fishing lines hanging off of power lines and bridges, be careful where you walk as there are hooks everywhere. The pond is pretty and relaxing, but does get really busy. The playground stinks and unfortunately people throw trash all over, there are a lot of garbage cans everywhere, but people don't know what they are or how they are used as it seems to be foreign to them. They do have nice walking trails around the...
Read moreYou could come here every day (like we have) and never do the same thing twice. Gorgeous mountain views. Healthy green grass perfect for soccer or a picnic, and an updated playground with a wide variety of equipment. Lots to explore with a couple of bridges, fountain, picnic tables, pavilion, a looped path with plenty of shade for walking/running/strolling, kid bikes. The water offers stand up paddle boarding, kayaks, sandy beach areas, fishing, and more! Excellent in every way, except for the increasing amount of trash left here despite ample garbage bins. I am not a Salem resident but I got so fed up after our many visits being ruined by litter that we collected a full medium trash bag with my hand protected by a baby wipe, and there was plenty left especially in the water where I couldn’t reach without falling in. Hoping everyone leaves no trace so we can all enjoy the...
Read moreHonestly, this is one of the best community water areas around. The boys love to play at the beach, and I tend to bring a pole and fish while they play... Although they join me fishing sometimes. 😁
There are a lot of fish to catch here...but avoid the carp. They are massive, and apparently magical, because if you catch them, you'd better throw them back quickly and unharmed, or they'll summon the boys in blue... Seriously, it's a big deal, according to the signs posted around, so avoid them off you can.
I've seen people haul out all sorts of fish from here. There are catfish, bluegill (or some other closely related panfish), trout, bass, etc. We usually get lots of trout, although the panfish are fun to catch (too honey for good eating IMHO). Great place to fish, lots of fun otherwise with canoeing / kayaking / etc. You cannot go wrong....
