For a free zoo on the outskirts of downtown salisbury, its hard to say anything negative about the experience. We have had our son there a handful of times since moving down to wicomico last year. The playground they have is tremendous for and age child, in the back corner of the playground is a semi-secluded place for the young toddlers to play in. The main part of the playground has two wings to it, and I would consider it to be a big playground, which is good because even if there's a lot of people with the same idea, you dont feel crowded by people thanks to the space. Its a beautiful park to walk through even if there wasn't a handful of awesome zoo animals there to see. From the beautiful Bald Eagles, the little primates, to the awesome Bear exhibit. (The bear that was there over the last year was no longer there, but there was a sign updating that they have a new bear coming soon. I had my 2 nephews and my brother & sister come in from out of town and we spent 90 mins or so walking around so the kids could see the animals then run around at the park. We were happy we made the stop! Oh and when we were at the marmoset exhibit my little brother had a bird aggressively schit on his head like it was throwing a vanilla milkshake from the clouds. So that made me happy to see that happen and...
Read moreFree admission...donations welcomed! A little out of the way, but easy to find with GPS. A lot of parking areas. A lot of the exhibits were under renovation which meant several of the animals shown on the map weren't actually being exhibited. Unfortunately we weren't able to see the Wallaby's, Coati, Ocelot, or Spider Monkey. Also some other exhibits weren't maintained so you ended up seeing more shrubs or trees rather than the Bald Eagle and the Sloth. The Praire dog exhibit could use an update, maybe like the Beaver exhibit with a glass underside that you could maybe see the tunnels and what they are actually doing since they are seldom above ground.
We did enjoy seeing the Sandhill Crane, Patagonian Cavy, Alpaca, Burrowing Owl, River Otter, the Bison were pretty neat, the Red Wolf eventually came out, and the Andean Bear was awesome. The White-tailed deer & Turkey were nothing special since we have an abundance of them here in Pa.
Overall it was a nice outing, I'm just glad the admission was free since there honestly wasn't much to see. I'd recommend waiting until after the park/zoo is updated before making...
Read moreIf you are visiting Ocean City and looking for a "different" outing put this on your to do list! Short trip up the highway to something totally different. My wife and I, with two teenagers, were on our vacation in Ocean City looking for something different to do for a few hours after breakfast one day and stumbled across the Salisbury Zoo on Google. We thought it would fit the bill so we ventured out. First, if you don't have navigation, good luck finding it. It's tucked away in what appears to be a little suburban area. Unexpected. Second, it's AWESOME! Very well kept. So many different animals to see. Bigger than you would imagine. Again, totally unexpected! Third, admission is free! There is a donation box at the front gate which we gladly donated to, but there is no actual admission fee. Even the teens were impressed and we got the opportunity to have some family time. Priceless! (if you have teens you know what I'm talking about) A truly great experience...
