Mon April 29th 145pm. Went to Back Street Grill with my wife for lunch. We were seated right away, which was nice. 5 minutes later a lady from behind the bar came to our booth. No introduction, no how are you guys today and she neglected to tell us the specials for the day. Well, ok??!! Once we had our drinks we waited another 20 minutes for her to come back and answer questions and take our orders. After our order was taken we observed her running around the run and tending to tables. Meanwhile our drinks were empty. Ok I get it she is busy but never once asked us if we wanted a refill. We finally got refills 10 minutes later after our food came out. My wife had requested more Lemons and this is what she got. See picture. The ends of the lemon. SMH. My wife ordered a custom salad with blackened chicken, tomatoe, cucumber, bacon and cheddar cheese.and raspberry vinegrette. The bacon was over cooked and hard as rocks. The chicken was wrong the first time. The amount of time it took to fix this, we feel it was the same chicken seasoned and recooked. Now the chicken is tough and chewy, still no dressing. Had to ask for the dressing. I got the grilled cheese and soup meal. Jambalaya was the soup of choice. Always heard good things about it. Well it was blank and the sausage pieces were so over cooked they were dry to eat even being in the liquid. A basket of fries were order for us to share and they could have been better. Pretty soft and limp, not crunchy at all. We suffered our way through it all because we were hungry. Only a few bites of the salad were consumed and when asked how everything was at check time, she told the waitress that it was terrible. The waitress responded with "OK!" WOW. That's all you have to say? No apologies or offer to discount the meal. She was pretty speedy when it was check time. Charged full price. SMH. This is why we don't go out much. This place has definitely gone downhill in my opinion. Long time local so I have noticed things over the years. Definitely wont be back. You guys can do better. For a $40 lunch I...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreGreat atmosphere, parking is tight but you can surely find something on the street and it's worth it. The coconut shrimp was great, with a strong coconut flavor and a sweet spicy sauce that complimented each other well. The server was great. They have nice outdoor seating and a good size bar. Very clean inside, well done Back Street Grill. You have my business.
PS. Beach fries were quite tasty, and they had malt vinegar at the table š one of the Sunday specials was a pesto pasta salad, chef's kiss.
-Update- 6/19/2025
I was sold when I went solo, so I decided to take the family. We arrived with a reservation, and we were seated quickly. They over seated our server with 2 tables of 7 plus people and 2 couples on top of that, so the poor bastard was slammed. The appetizers came quickly, but getting our actual order in took quite a while, and the meals themselves took a long time to come out. The coleslaw was essentially from a grocery store. The spinach was very salty, and I'm typically heavy on the salt. I got the rib eye, which was thinner than expected and cooked well done instead of rare, but I don't see how you could get a steak that thin to be rare anyway. The flavor was good, although again, a little salty.
The appetizers were decent, and the kids' menu has a lot of options, and my kids ate most if not all of their food, which is rare.
Would I go again by myself? Maybe. Did I feel disappointed at how much I spent on an evening out with the family for the slow service and mediocre food? Yes, 100%, I feel like I could've spent the same amount and gotten a lot more out of it somewhere else. It felt pretty frustrating considering how tight money is for everyone these days, and with the size of my family when we go...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhile I'd love to give this place 5 stars because I do love the food, it's taking everything I have to give 2. I have been here a handful of times and Backstreet Grill had the potential to be my favorite place to eat in Salisbury had I not had the last SEVERAL experiences here. In about the 5 times I've been here, 3 we have attempted to sit outside in which we were told there would be an extensive wait yet we witnessed every other guest being seated promptly outside when arriving after us. The last time we even called ahead (as suggested by the manager) to reserve an outside seat for us and another couple. Upon arrival we were told that the gentleman that took our name, number, and reservation time made a mistake and there would be a two hour wait to eat outside. Another encounter with the manager resulted in a condescending answer when I asked why there is no changing table in a restaurant that clearly encourages the presence of children with their kid's menu and the many families I've seen with toddlers and infants each time I've been. When I asked where he suggested I change my infant I received, "What do you want me to do, install a changing table? I see people changing them outside in their cars all the time." If that's the case, you would think the addition of a fold down changing table would be the least you could do for faithful patrons. In all honesty, I could have gotten past this issue had it not been for his attitude and the accumilation of other inconveniences when dining here. My family and I gave this place several chances against our greater judgement and as much as it disappoints me, we won't be...
