I recently visited Herman Franks Park dog park, and I have to say it’s one of the most disappointing dog parks I’ve ever encountered. It's unfortunate because the location is quite convenient, situated kiddie corner to Liberty Park, which has unfortunately become very unfriendly towards dog owners.
Upon arrival, I was greeted not by the joyful barks of happy dogs but by the alarming sight of several dogs that were clearly not friendly towards others. It was distressing to see that many owners did nothing to rein in their aggressive pets, leading to tense moments where my dog felt threatened. This lack of responsibility from dog owners made the experience far from enjoyable.
As for the park's facilities, they leave much to be desired. The area is predominantly a dirt and gravel patch, with only a small section of grass that is poorly maintained. After a bit of rain, this area becomes muddy and uninviting, making it difficult for dogs to play without coming away caked in mud.
Overall, I cannot recommend Herman Franks Park dog park to fellow dog owners. It’s a shame because it could be a great spot, but the combination of aggressive dogs and subpar facilities makes it more of a hassle than a joy. If you're looking for a safe and clean place for your furry friend to socialize, it’s best to...
Read moreThe park has water, and a grassy area, but seating for the owners are on a (small rocks) large rocky area, so that’s where the dogs mostly play. I got literally ran over Dec2021 by a 4-5 month old pit cross who was trying to get to bite my dog. I ended up with a broken ankle and wrist. The dog and owner melted into the air afterwards. My dog loves chase, so because of the small rocks, he tore a nail out at the quick by sliding in the rocks. If you stay on top of your dog, you should be able to intervene and save you and your dog from injury. But the owners here do not have their dogs very well trained. A lot of them are out of control so bear that in mind if you have a smaller dog. Also in the winter, after a snow day, the dogs pack the snow into a thin hard sheet, and their paws melt it just enough that when it refreezes it is slicker than...
Read moreLots of dogs. A dog's delight! Lots of room to run and play. Agility training areas too. Bags provided to clean up after your dog and it seems like everyone does a pretty good job doing that. Cleanish for a dog park. The people here always seem to be monitoring and correcting their dogs so not too much bullying or unwanted behavior goes on. Lots of benches. There is a water fountain for the dogs but I'm sure that is seasonal. Lots of tennis balls always seem to be laying around for play if you forget your own. I've been to this park dozens of times and never had a problem. I have been to several different dog parks around here and this seems like the best not only for the park but the other people doing a great job with their own dogs. I really like...
