YMCA Leadership Team,
I am writing to formally express my concern regarding an incident that occurred at your YMCA Walzem location involving Kallie Gower.
On 9/9/2025, I was utilizing the workout area with my child present under my direct supervision. We were in the facility for over an hour without issue, and at no time did my child touch or attempt to use any weight equipment. My child remained within ten feet of me at all times.
After briefly taking my child to the family restroom and returning to continue my circuit training session, Gower approached me and instructed that my child sit in an open space area, away from me. This request was concerning, as it would have placed my child in a position where I could not properly supervise them. As a result, I felt it best to leave the facility rather than continue in an uncomfortable situation.
What makes this experience especially frustrating is that prior to this incident, other YMCA staff had clearly communicated to me that my child could remain with me in the workout area as long as they were not a distraction or a safety risk. I have also completed the required waivers for all of my children, including the one present that day. Furthermore, this branch does not currently provide childcare services, making parental supervision in the workout area the only practical option.
I have been a faithful YMCA member for nearly ten years and have greatly valued the sense of community and support that the YMCA represents. However, in this situation I felt targeted and treated unfairly despite following all guidelines as they had been explained to me.
I respectfully request the following: Clarification on the YMCA’s official policy regarding children in the workout area under adult supervision. Assurance that staff members provide consistent and accurate information about these policies. A review of this incident to ensure members are treated respectfully and fairly.
Thank you for taking the time to review my concerns. I value the YMCA and hope this matter can be resolved in a way that supports both member...
Read moreThe Summer program is very good for kids that can ACTUALLY ATTEND! My children had been going since July 7th. Paying $480 for three kids every week. So when my children come home,I ask how their day was? They explain with so much excitement in their voice. So the Summer program is not the problem!
The PROBLEM is Keeping my money! Also when someone is sick & that we have either irresponsible parents or Staff members who do not tell anyone that someone is sick. My husband and I work too hard to have $480 go down the drain because you have to pay in advance for the next week! Now we have to take off work in order take care of our children (which is fine we are there parents) this however is because someone dropped the ball. If your kids or yourself are sick STAY HOME! Others can’t afford to take off work. Think about others before you do something like this! My kids are sick and can’t attend. Strep throat is NOTHING TO PLAY WITH! Neither is $480 that they are refusing to refund back. I understand that they have a policy. I do too! Some policies needs to be changed or Accommodations need to be made. Days are very unpredictable death sickness, family emergency anything can happen. The YMCA its definitely not like it used to be when I went! We were sick mom and dad paid they received a refund and we were good trust me I KNOW! My parents didn’t play about they’re hard earn money either. My kids will not be able to finish this week out there so WHY KEEP MY FUNDS for students that are not in...
Read moreI'll start by stating this is the first review I've ever wrote and felt very much the need to do so.
I signed my daughter up for volleyball and from the beginning there was lack of communication and was very unorganized. The first two games were canceled and I was not notified until I arrived. The next three games coach Victoria did not show up nor notify the parents she was not going to be there, therefore one of the players mother was coaching the kids throughout the games. During practices Victoria mainly played volleyball one on one with another coach instead of teaching the kids the sport, so the kids would be doing their own thing. Victoria did not make any effort to talk to the parents and her appearance was very unprofessional. When Victoria did show up to the couple of games that remained of the season she was ALWAYS texting and had ear phones on.
They need better coaches that enjoy what they are doing and actually take the time to do their job and teach these kids the sport. This experience was horrible and a complete waste of my time and money. I have now enrolled my daughter in a different Volleyball club and she has learned a lot more in these two weeks than she did in six weeks being...
