We have been coming to this park for over 10 years. Today was the first day that we were harassed by a volunteer there. We brought peas, sweet corn , grapes and strawberries to feed the ducks. We dont use bread bc it is bad for them . She told us we were not allowed to feed the ducks. I told her what we were feeding them and she said that stuff is bad for them. Umm no. The Canal and River Trust urges people to feed ducks with frozen peas and sweetcorn instead. Ducks are also reportedly partial to grapes, which should be cut into quarters to make them easier to eat. Which we did. Like I said we have been doing this for years. There use to be piles of lettuce that was dropped off for them to eat and a few years ago there would be tables filled with bread for the public to use. ( bad on them) She said that we were hindering the ducks by feeding them. So your telling me that these are all brand new ducks and geese that have never been fed before??? They are already hindered bc they have been being fed for many years. Where was this lady a few weeks ago when people were messing with a dead geese and causing its partner distress. This woman was awful, got in my face harrassed me in front of my children. Be thankful that I was feeding them the appropriate stuff unlike the 10 other people that were there feeding them bread. Absolutely awful. Very disappointed in the treatment we...
Read moreThis is my local Lake where I come and run a few times a week. It is very kid friendly with a few piers where your tikes can fish for free (Adults are not allowed to fish). They even have a tackle and bait shop that will hook you up with a rod and everything else you need if you don't have your own, this is on the weekends before 11am I think. I'm not sure what kind of fish they have here.
The birds you find here are Geese, Mallard ducks, Chinese ducks, common pigeons, one couple of white American pelicans, common seagulls and even double-crested cormorants! No bird feeding allowed as per signs around the lake but everyone bring their bags of tortillas and keep these guys and gulls (pun intended) well fed. The perimeter of the lake is 0.8 miles, but if you want a little extra terrain you can detour and find other trails that take you behind the lake towards baseball fields and even an RC course. Gates have hours posted that coincide with sun light, so these hours change all the time, basically it's only open when there is daylight. They have bathrooms by the parking lot and also have several gates along the perimeter of the trail in case the main parking lot is full, you can park on College...
Read moreI work during the day and love to take my dog on a walk at the lake. It's so shady and peaceful, full of ducks and geese. The crazy thing about this place is how they treat you at the end of the day. The park closes before dark and instead of just politely waiting until the park actually closes they drive a truck through the park blaring a horn over and over and using a megaphone at an extremely small lake yelling at people to leave the park. Unfortunately if you work all day this is the last place to come for some peace. You start with a beautifully peaceful space only to end the walk with ridiculous amounts of noise and laziness. For gods sake just get out of the truck spread out in two directions and politely remind people the gates will soon be locked. I always park on the street just to get in a few extra steps but today was the WORST I have seen these park employees behave. Blaring their horn over and over for 10 minutes straight. This shouldn't be legal. Stay 30 minutes after the park closes and clear it...
