The current owner of Skateworld sabotaged SDRD'S operations and subsequently kicked them out although the league was started by Skateworld. The trouble between SDRD and Skateworld started when she was handpicked to coach the Starlettes instead the league roster being allowed to pick their coaches by vote. This resulted in 5 skaters leaving by year's end. While she wasn't owner of Skateworld at the time, she had a hidden agenda against the league. In order to hinder their fundraising, someone without local business ties was put in charge of fundraising. No public fundraising events took place for 2 years as a result. Someone who doesn't care about the fans was put in charge of scheduling. Prior to this, there was an understanding between SDRD and Skateworld that there would be a home game for every month of the season. That changed with the 2015 schedule which resulted in 6 games overlapping other local leagues' games(2 of which were moved to a weekday, that worked very well, unlike Monster Smash 2013) and no home games for a 3 month period the second half of the season. How would you feel if if your favorite sports team didn't play a home game for 3 straight months? Then, the Labor Day weekend tournament held the previous 2 seasons was cancelled, Skateworld claiming the couldn't afford it. That's a lie, considering Skateworld has public skating 4 days a week and that draws good crowds, which generates more than enough revenue to afford any roller derby event. Also, many of SDRD'S practices were cancelled. It's understandable that any skating rink can be rented for private events, but since SDRD was started by Skateworld, they should've remained a priority. Because the current owner decided otherwise, she's the most hated person in the sport locally, not to mention one of the 2 most hated people in local sports, the other being Spanos. The motive behind SDRD being forced to leave Skateworld in the middle of their season was the same as the Chargers moving to LA:Greed.Khaarma got the owner in the end. She started her own league (it folded this past May) The Chargers, meanwhile, haven't won a game since moving to LA. What goes around comes around. Remember the name, Fritz Spanos, all...

I recently visited Skateworld San Diego on a Wednesday evening with my friend who's an experienced skater, while I was a complete beginner. I was honestly nervous about falling and getting in everyone's way, but it turned out to be the perfect environment for learning!
🤗 Welcoming Atmosphere 🤗 Everyone we encountered was incredibly chill and kind. The staff and other skaters were so patient with beginners like me, creating a truly supportive space to learn. This isn't surprising since Skateworld prides itself on creating a safe space for skaters of all ages to enjoy themselves!
🌟 Amazing Retro Vibes 🌟 The building itself is super cute with a wonderful retro aesthetic. The disco ball hanging from the ceiling and the fun music they played created such a vibrant atmosphere! It really added to the whole experience and made even my awkward first attempts at skating feel like part of the fun.
🎵 Great Music Selection 🎵 They play such awesome tunes that get you in the groove! Whether you're an expert or just starting out, the music makes you want to keep moving. It's clear why they mention "grooving to fun music" as part of their identity.
💯 Perfect for Beginners 💯 As someone who was worried about making a fool of myself, I can honestly say this was the ideal place to learn. The supportive environment, spacious wooden skating rink, and overall friendly vibe made me comfortable enough to keep trying even after a few stumbles.
💖 Definitely Coming Back! 💖 I had such a fantastic time that I'm absolutely returning! Whether you're a skilled skater or a complete novice like me, Skateworld San Diego offers a fun, inclusive experience that's hard to beat. Can't wait for my next visit to build on my newly discovered...
Read moreA great value for great fun with some room for improvements
Price: $15 bucks and it includes skate rental so that's pretty amazing value.
Location: really out of the way and parking is a nightmare. Only a few parking spaces and it's actually really hard to exit after parking as the lot entrance and exit is located near the front but no where to turn around.
Activities: skating of course, blades and wheels, or bring your own.
A few arcade machines, they would really benifit from some more space and more machines. They do have a fuseball table, great fun there.
Date night: they actually have couples only adults only skate time. Great for a date and time with out kids.
Food: pizza is oddly delicious, despite looking stale all there food was decent and low priced allowing you to splurge on snacks and treats for the kids, and they have tons of candy options.
Dinning: Standard party tables and benches. And staff does come and clean up pretty regularly. They do have a party room which is just several reservation tables.
Amenities: they do have a skate shop, lockers, and great atmosphere with lights and effects. They also provide skate walkers to help guide newbies
The bad stuff: staff are super overworked and it shows. The
rentals skates are old and need replacing.
The dj is only there part time and is often just a Playlist which leads to slow R&B songs played on open skate. Slow song kinda kill the vibe of fun party time.
They charge full soda price for a cup for water from the fountain as a policy that needs to stop like right away.
Overall: really great affordable time and should be a weekly destination for families or dates as it's really inexpensive, great activity and tons of fun. Biggest issue is just location...
