This might be my new go-to spot for sushi and for when I’m craving carbonara. Hidden gem in Linda Vista— you’ve gotta check this place out!
Parking/Ambiance/Service: There were a handful of parking spots up front and a few more on the side. This place is tiny! There were 3 4-person tables, 2 2-person tables plus 4 seats at the bar— not best for large groups, just a heads up. The inside is decorated as a Traditional Japanese style restaurant, really felt like we were back in Japan! Low key, casual ambiance. Our party of 2 went at 3pm on a Sunday and we were seated right away. Our server was great and food came out very quickly.
Food: We loved everything that we ordered. I wish we could have ordered more but these were filling enough. Pricing was very reasonable. The rolls were big (around 8-9 pieces). My husband and I shared all plates and we were pretty stuffed— had to bring home leftover Udon.
-Yorimichi roll ($12): imitation crab, crispy shrimp tempura, cream cheese inside plus suuuper fresh seared salmon, spicy mayo, eel sauce on top.
-Surf and skate roll ($12): spicy tuna, crispy shrimp tempura inside plus seared beef, garlic ponzu, yum yum sauce, and fried onion on top. The beef melts in your mouth.
-Carbonara udon ($13.25) with bacon- you can choose between bacon, chicken, or shrimp for your protein. Bacon was cooked and tasted like Pancetta. Perfectly runny poached egg on top. Sooo creamy, delicious, and filling. I recommend sharing this.
-Grilled salmon belly ($8): part of their monthly special menu. This plate was surprisingly bigger than we thought. This plate was served last and it was grilled to perfection. Melt-in-your-mouth and very flavorful.
Overall: I will definitely come back to Sushi Yorimichi to try out more things off the menu and to check out happy hour...
Read moreJapanese Cuisine is probably one of my favorites and I’m so glad I stumbled across this place. I was looking for places to eat in Linda Vista for lunch and drove by this place. It’s a quaint spot with plenty of parking both in the lot and on the street.
They have nice decorations throughout. It is an intimate space, with 3 large tables (each table seats about 4), two small tables (each table seats 2) and a bar seating area that seats 4. Looks like this location doesn’t take reservations so you could wait a bit before being seated BUT the wait is SO worth it.
Things that stood out to me :
The food was spectacular with really beautiful food presentation. The food was really thoughtfully placed on the plates.
I ordered the grilled Salmon teriyaki entree with shrimp tempura as a side (comes with rice and a salad) and a spicy tuna hand roll.
The flavors were wonderful. They nailed all the flavors in each dish, food was served hot, absolutely loved the teriyaki sauce that came on the salmon. Really impressed with the salad (mix of seaweed salad and salad greens). I’ve been to many other Japanese restaurants and find the salad can be a hit or miss (I tend to skip out bc I don’t like the dressing) but this locations salad was really good.
The overall flavors complement each other, the rice had nice sticky consistency to it, Hand roll was so good, food was cooked perfectly, food was fresh, prices were pretty comparable to other Japanese restaurants, and everyone working there was really kind and attentive.
A nice surprise to have stumbled across this place. Definitely on the top of my list of Japanese restaurants that I’ve visited throughout San Diego. So worth it....
Read moreThis Japanese restaurant is fairly new and tucked in at the small strip mall once Original Sab-E-Lee was located. They have variety of dishes other than sushi rolls with interesting twist to them. Been there couple of times during lunch hours and service of a young man is very good.
As for the food, I’ve had couple of their entrees before making this review. Their fried dishes were not so great, they tasted old and not much flavor. Perhaps they keep using old oils to fry them. The ginger pork dish had overwhelming amount of flavor / salt to a point it was excruciating to finish the dish. Salad, miso soup and rice that comes with the entrée is good. Mentai potato was great. Hand rolls were good too so maybe I’ll try more their sushi dishes next time around. This place definitely has a potential to be a hidden gem so keep the renovation going and keep improving. They have a great Happy Hour deal so check them out. I’ll be back to try some other dishes! 6/2022
Updates 1/2023: Been here couple of more times after the above review. The menu has been updated & price of the items have been raised.
As for the food, I really enjoy their crab croquette; definitely give it a try. Their Birria Ramen is underwhelming; not much birria, noodle is meh and the soup lacks flavor/watered down. Their sushi rolls can be hit or miss, definitely a miss when their rice is excessively wet. I prefer their hand rolls over sushi...
