Update: 08/18/25 Very dry, tan, brown & crisp, but still Cattails in creek bed bring Dragonflies, butterflies. Fewer hawks. Now you can see through the trees along creek. Be careful about fire, to keep hydrated, and rest in shade. 06/05/25 Field flowers slowing. Creek slowing/low. Coyote in mist. Some flowers. Many baby bunnies🐇,🐿️Squirrels to🌳. Drying trail & grasses. Seen Big Blue heron recently, still red shoulder, sharp shined hawks, maybe cooper. 04/12/25 Work done!😃 Trail moist still, blossoms🪻🌿🌸🌼💠🏵️, critters too!! 🐿️🦎🦋🐦🐣🦆🕊️🦉🐦‍⬛🦅(hawks),coyote🐺. Come👁️see soon!! Trail from Balboa Ave(dip) is being used by Trucks. Dusty. Aug/Sept '24. To about halfway up to Genesee Ave (Bus 41). Sewer project. Lots of shade, birds, butterflies, lizards! Watch for Poison Oak,"leaves of 3 let be" reddening now. *This trail follows Balboa Ave then heads north. Bathrooms & water at Mt. Etna Park. Picnic tables & play area and small parking lot also.

Hidden gem! I drove pass the trail entrance a couple times, but never had a chance to explore the area until now. The commute is easy: you can take the 41 bus and it will bring you to the trail entrance on Genesee or you can park in the local parking and take a few minutes walk. The trail is a combination of tree, shrubs, creek, sunshine and fresh air. It will make a good workout or relaxation spot for you and your family

It is a bout 1.8 miles each way. All flat and dirt which makes it for an easy walk/ run. Depending on the time of the year, the river might have some water or be empty but regardless, it always green. Street parking on CM Blvd and walk on the side of Genessee to the trail head.

Easy flat hiking through the canyons surrounded by homes and mostly residential streets. Very shady hike full of foliage and trees. The smell may be off putting since there is gray water sometimes flowing through. This only happens sometimes though. Not a lot of people go through here and it’s quite peaceful you can take the chateau to Genesee which is 12 mins and you exit out from the park. Great for a quick hike after work. The hike towards balboa is a bit longer,...
