A coworker recently posted a picture of this places neon sign and i knew i had to go; a Mexican themed donut shop and deli, who wouldn't want to go right.

It is a super cute, small shop with a modern, contemporary design of white subway tile, a great neon sign in Spanish that plays off the shape and love of donuts, and some minimal seating in a suburbanish shopping mall in the Clairemont Blvd area of San Diego. The staff were very friendly and shared the business had been there for years as a bakery and deli and rebranded in early Spring 2019 with the theme and focus on Mexican themed donuts! They did an excellent job in nailing the rebranding goal from their donuts, concha meets donut creation, and logo which greatly captures the Mexican donut theme.

They have a wonderful assortment of donuts and Mexican pastries, coffee and iced drinks, breakfast and savory tortas (Mexican sandwiches) and tamales.

Focus today was dinner so i didn't indulge in a donut although i was highly tempted. I got the Loma Torta with jalapeños, the horchata and café de olla iced, and their adorably packaged mini conchas (so i could have a little sweet treat).

Loma Torta - super delicious, the meat was moist and juicy and the bolillo was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. I added the jalapeños and it was bordering on too spicy for me, next time i'll get them on the side.

The horchata + café de olla was excellent, not too sweet and i could taste both the coffee and the horchata.

The mini conchas are very light, the breading reminded me of the lightness and texture of a cream puff without the cream.

Highly recommend this place and can't wait to go back and taste their donuts, other coffee beverages, and...

This place is an experience. I was hesitant at first because I was just looking for a classic donut place and this one says it had a sort of Mexican twist to their treats, which is great, but wasn't what I was in the mood for. No worries there though, they have plenty of typical type of donuts to choose from also!

I only wish I would've come sooner cuz this place is amazing. Firstly, the atmosphere is a treat in itself! Beautiful decor and interior donut shop! Everything is very pretty, modern and bright in here! The staff is cheerful, welcoming, happy and the music is bustlin, keeping everyone nice and busy and high vibrations!

But let's get to the donuts... oh my goodness. Beyond my expectations considering what I've had in San Diego thus far. These donuts are very very good! A tiny bit crisp, the icing is clean and neat, the donuts are fluffy and expand after each bite. The Jamaica donut was extremely different and amazingly tasty. Very pretty too! 😍

Coffee is also top quality. I expect nothing less from a hispanic owned business, and they went above and beyond. Coffee is strong enough, sweet enough and even a little exotic.

I will be coming back here for sure!! Thank you so much for the experience!

EDIT: NEXT DAY REVIEW

Wow...

That flan donut had me seeing stars! What a time to be alive to enjoy such hardworking excellence from this shop! ✚✚✚GOURMET DONUTS...

Wow. SO GOOD! Bought six donuts and they were all really good. Cake and yeast donuts. Bought the Gansito, Mi Rey, Churro, Horchata, Jamaica, and Cajeta. Also bought a regular sized Horchata which was really good but too much ice. What I appreciate the most about these donuts are that all the flavors are delicious and well-balanced with no artificial flavoring. Also, the ratio between glaze and donut is PERFECT. The yeast donuts are delicious, fluffy, light, and not greasy. The cake donuts are fantastic and this is coming from someone who doesn't like cake donuts. The Jamaica was surprisingly really good. You get hit with that fruit acidity but it doesn't linger. The flavor is strong but not overpowering without any artificial flavoring. Would get again. The Mi Rey had the perfect amount of chocolate. Surprisingly not too sweet and the chocolate tasted really good! The Gansito was SO good. Perfect amount of jam and vanilla custard to the donut. Wish we bought two of these. Would definitely get this again in a heartbeat. No bathrooms here but a couple of tables for you to eat. VERY...

Hands down one of the best donut shops in San Diego. I have never been to a donut shop and ordered a dozen donuts and each one of them tasted above average. Honestly, I was a little blown away because I wasn’t expecting such quality donuts. They are a good size donut, FRESH, perfect amount of filling in the jelly donuts, not overly sweet, and decently priced ($33/12= $2.75 each). My favorites were the Gansito, guayaba, chocolate abuelita, and carlota di limon. I can’t wait to go back and try the other Mexican specialty ones like the horchata, arroz con leche, cajeta, and mazipan. For those who give one star reviews because you went at 1:30 PM in the afternoon to get donuts, that is your own problem. You can’t expect to go to a donut shop after lunchtime and have an entire selection of donuts. The best time to go to a donut shop for the best selection is about 30 minutes after opening. Thank you Barrio Donas for the amazing treats. I’m so glad you’re opening a National City location. Fourth location should be Chula Vista! 😜
