Produce: 5 stars Variety: 5 stars Service: 5 stars

Prior to Yasukochi Family Farms CSA boxes, I didn't keep or eat much fresh produce. My produce consumption was primarily frozen vegetables from the warehouse store that kept permanent space in my freezer.

Quarantine was - now more than ever - the time to learn my vegetables, preparation and eating them in ways I have never done before. The variety in the boxes presented a good balance between “the comfort of the familiar” and “the challenge of the unknown-to-me” fruits and vegetables that beckoned me to open up websites with recipes so that I may find what to do with an unfamiliar - or even unknown -vegetable.

The weekly boxes were a delight to receive. All produce were at peak of ripeness and freshness. Husband would take bites of the items throughout the week and smile back while saying that the fruit or vegetable tasted sweet. This brought the desire and success in making my own salsa and many vegetarian recipes and sauces for the very first time.

From my pictures you can see the variety. Boxes are never exactly the same again as the week before as they are based on what is ready for picking from their farm (and occasionally from other area farms) but their sustainable and ethical farmed produce was always delivered with variety and plenty.

My boxes included staples such as carrots and potatoes as well as not common to me such as dill, sage, and artichoke hearts. Fruit such as peaches, nectarines, plums and strawberries was a usual party of the box. There were weeks of giant heirloom tomatoes and fruit I’ve never purchased before such as melon and honeydew. If you ever want to ensure particular items come, you can ask or add to your box (such as more ears of corn or eggs from Fluegge Egg Ranch) via their website ordering system. As far as the delivery people I saw during drop off, they were polite and masked and if I was not home or didn’t hear the doorbell, I would find my box in the shade or covered when possible.

The regular box weekly is plenty for a family of 4 and for those who really love fresh produce or looking to split with a friend or neighbor, I would recommend the jumbo box because for $10 more, you can still have plenty delivered even after sharing a box.

After a month of giving it a shot, I will be continuing my subscription and would highly recommend Yasukochi Family Farms as one to support via via CSA (community supported agriculture) box delivery.

The pictures I am attaching shows the contents of their Jumbo Box (currently $35) and the add-on of a dozen eggs from...

I have received the Yasukochi Family Farms CSA produce box for 4 weeks now, and the program is everything I expected it to be and so much more! Each week, a variety box of super fresh, in-season fruits, vegetables, and herbs is delivered to my doorstep (contact free).

It’s so fun to open the box with my daughter each week and see what we’ve received - every week is different (however they do offer a preview of what COULD come each week on their website). They always send a really good mixture of fruits and vegetables, as well as a mix of things I really like and things I’ve never tried before. All the produce is incredibly fresh and high quality - I've never received anything that was bruised, damaged, or inedible.

As far as cost, I think these boxes definitely give you a lot of bang for your buck. Delivery is free, and my produce box is always crammed full of food. The variety and convenience that you benefit from totally make the boxes worth the price.

The farm is located in Oceanside, but they deliver all over San Diego. All the produce that they send is either grown on their farm using organic farming methods or sourced from local farms. You can also add on items like extra berries, eggs, honey, and jams based on availability to your area.

The program has been a great way to introduce my family to all sorts of new produce, and we’ve been eating much healthier too. I even bought a new blender specifically for making smoothies with all of the fruit we get in our CSA...

Update 10/3/2020. It had been two months since our last delivery and I didn't realize how much I depended on the fresh fruits and vegetables to meal plan and eat better! I missed our weekly boxes so much! And what a time saver in terms of grocery shopping! I enjoy watching cooking shows so I feel like I'm on "Chopped" whenever I open a new box! It keeps me engaged with cooking and what we prepare for the family. EVERYTHING is in top shape and flavor, and you get so much! We're back on track with Yasukochi Family Farms!

We absolutely love our weekly delivery of the CSA produce boxes from Yasukochi Family Farms! It was like my birthday every Saturday, receiving this huge gift of a box! Delivery is included too! First of all, there is so much food packed into the box and they are all so beautiful too. One could tell they took their time to select only the best, quality fruits and vegetables! Speaking of fruits, they were all soo sweet! They provided my family with much better options than candy, cakes, and cookies for dessert! My husband and I enjoy cooking so we would get inspired to meal plan as soon as we opened a new box! We made American, Italian, and Asian dishes! We felt so good about preparing healthy meals too, we literally ate the rainbow from the quality fruits and vegetables from Yasokuchi...
