If you care for the preservation of your natural nails - or for attention to detail in a manicure at all, move right along. This isn’t the nail salon, or at least the nail tech for you. I was so excited to try Glitz n Glam - which is fairly far from my house - because of the many reviews saying the dip powder manicure was excellent here. If you’re new to San Francisco like I am, you’ll probably be somewhat surprised to learn that dip isn’t common in every salon, so you may need to search a bit. This was my first try and I can safely say my search continues.
Let’s start with the nail tech, Hannah: unprofessional, rough, sloppy. I’m not sure who peed in her cornflakes that morning, but I was feeling bright and cheery and her unprompted dour attitude was unsettling from the start. I explained that I usually grow my nails into a long almond shape, but that I’d cut them in order to handle boxes during my recent move. I was immediately alarmed by how long she used the electric file to remove the current dip powder overlay. I was certain she was too close to the nail, and as any talented tech knows, you need to be careful with this when attempting to preserve natural nail strength. She then proceeded to file my nails extremely roughly and carelessly, almost immediately breaking a thumb nail in the process. She didn’t react at all and when I asked her to please take more care, she responded with an attitude: “You want to fix it?” No apology, no admission of an error on her part. After my reaction to this, she was marginally more careful, but still way too rough and cavalier for my liking. The rest of the appointment went accordingly. I’m not overly sensitive but she painfully filed over my skin dozens of times with both the electric and hand files. As you can see from the pictures, despite this, there’s cured dip all over my cuticles and under my nails. No lotion/hand massage after my nails were done. Add to this that her attitude and energy was just garbage and: I’m good on the whole establishment. I gave her a tip she didn’t deserve because working in any service industry is hard and never compensated well enough. Maybe this improved her attitude a little for the next client. 2hrs for a messy dip that didn’t even include designs and felt like she was rushing through the entire time. Yikes.
As for the salon, I’m not certain ‘glitz and glam’ is the best descriptor. If you decide to ignore this warning and try for yourself, take a good look at the wall beneath the hand dryer when you wash your hands - again, yikes🥴. I was there immediately as they opened and there was a huge pile of wet towels in the client sink when they asked me to wash my hands upon arrival. Price was average from my experience.
In short: while there may be more professional, less rude and more talented techs there than Hannah, I absolutely won’t be back to find out.
TL;DR - just look at the pics....
Read moreSo sad to be writing this, but my last experience after being a regular was really bad and I’m hoping Glitz n Glam can attempt to do better, because they really do have potential!
It would be an understatement to say that I got the worst pedicure….. ever.
It was rough, messy, unsanitary, and there was no attention to detail whatsoever. I noticed that the nail tech who only does pedicures asked me to sit in the same chair/tub as the last girl, which now in hindsight makes me question everything..
What I noticed was pretty gross. She was using a nail clipper with FAR too many nail clippings sitting on the inside of the tool. I know for a fact my toenails were not long at all. Not only did she proceed to use this nail clipper on me, but would put it back in her cart without emptying the nail clippings. At times she would even use the tub water to clean some of her tools, which felt so gross considering my feet were still in the water. She would also sometimes use the tool my feet were laying on, only to wipe my legs with that same towel which at times leave clipping on my legs, only for her to move onto lotion to rub it all in. Overall—it was just the most unsanitary experience I’ve ever had and after being a regular for about a year, that was my last chance. To end this uncomfortable experience, the nail tech didn’t bother to clean up the nail polish around my toes or exfoliate any of my toes. I remember her touching one of my toes asking if I wanted a callous treatment, and obviously I said no because she was being so careless and rough. But I didn’t realize that meant she would overlook some areas that could’ve have used at least some exfoliation?
I will say this—if you want the best gel or designs out of anyone at the salon. Ask for Sky. After months of scoping out who’s good and who likes to rush, he’s the most skilled. I’ll miss him! But it’s time to find another salon. That last experience was enough for me.
Wishing you all the best GnG! Hope this is...
Read moreI went here for the first time, as I am new to the city, to get my nails done before my birthday. The original appt took 2 hrs to finish which I didn’t mind at all because the nail artist did a wonderful job and I was very happy with them. However, they broke after just two days when I opened the fridge. I called them and they told me to come in multiple days later to get it fixed for free. I got to the next appt early and they helped me immediately.
However I was at this appt for over an hour for one nail fix. While my nail was soaking off one employee asked me if I’d like a shoulder rub while I wait. I said sure if you would like to and she said nothing about a price. Then the nail tech, who was working on another client at the time they scheduled my appt, switched chairs to me causing the other guest to question what time they would be done.
My nail artist switched back and forth between us multiple times. There seemed to not be much care to scheduling or time constraints there. My nail was not the same quality as the other nails. It seems as though my tech made a mistake with the sparkles and they covered it up using a different medium to make it look the same. The acrylic is not shaped as well and there are bumps in the acrylic.
When they were finished and as I was leaving the other employee came to tell me that I owed $30 for the massage. She said it very quietly. When I very nicely said you didn’t tell me that it was $30 before you started and that I would like to speak to a manager she said no problem no worries you’re good. Overall I just feel as though that wasn’t the best experience especially when I paid $115 for this set to begin with. They shouldn’t have broken on day 2 and I shouldn’t have been at the salon for over an hour for the fix and I shouldn’t have someone try to slick...
