Here are the sections I like to hit up when I come in order of importance.
The instant noodle section: This will do in a pinch if I am starving and they have a great selection of spicy. There are Vietnamese, Japanese, and Taiwanese staples too.
produce: they have a nice mist going on in the leafy vegetable area. They have a good variety, 4 types of bok choy some days, not that I can tell a difference. I like to get their giant leeks - those are usually fresh. I also really like their potato variety, from the diff miniature ones to the sweet potatoes to the purple ones. 💜 Their collection is most extensive.
The fruits I usually don't go for because they are expensive compared to other places and you run the risk of them being moldy a lot. I once bought half a jackfruit from a vendor there for just $10; ate it for days and it came with 30 seeds that I steamed with rice. That was worth it. They also have petite exotic bananas and plantains that go for a market price.
frozen foods; I really like some of the kimchi mandu and korean pancakes brands they carry
rice cakes and mochi. They carry rice cakes from a shop on El Camino that I like. Speaking of which, they also sometimes sell bread from the Korean bakery chain Tour Les Jour
precooked items like their soups, fried chicken, side dishes like marinated lotus root, gimbap, whatever's cooking
-and when I am not in a rush
the marinated meats, pork jowl, and their quality ground pork
snack section: turtle chips, 🐢 anyone?
alcohol - ok since they have this displayed almost everywhere, I do buy whatever is on sale because IF YOU GO TO A KOREAN SUPERMARKET AND DON'T BUY RICE WINE, DID YOU EVEN GO? They have Japanese and Chinese liquors as well.
ice cream: ice cream mochi, corn 🌽 ice cream, taiyaki, the Hawaiian flavors like ube cheese and other necessities
That's pretty much it. Can't even think of a top 10. Hope this helps your grocery inspo. Everything is tidy and clean here. The service is usually poor. This is a very suspicious corporation as you can tell by the bouncers at the door, the exit only being where it is, they used to stick these "paid" stickers on your purchases until they realized it was not too necessary, etc. You can be sure they will give you a hard time with any returns. Not speaking from personal experience but just saying I believe the...

Poorly trained cashier ruined the reputation.
The cashier’s checkout machine was broken down after the payment was made, and no receipt came out. Tho my bank told me that transaction went thru, the cashier and her manager said no, and said I cannot leave with the purchased items. They asked for proof of bank charge, and I ran to my car to get them my phone, during which time they demand the items to be kept in store, in case I ran away while fetching my phone from my car.
After seeing the bank approval text and transaction history, they were not convinced. They decided to give me two options, to wait on-site to see if the machine could be restored, or rescan everything and make another payment. It was 8:30 PM, I have been standing at the checkout point for 20 minutes, I was forced to make the second payment.
And the funniest thing is that they promised to refund ASAP if I got double charged, and even gave a hand-written note, which says, if double charged, refund immediately. But now they denied the double charging facts when the first payment is posted on my last month's bank statement.
I provided every document that they asked for. Then the cashier said, “it is my manager’s final decision whether or not to refund you.” OK, once the money goes into their pocket, don’t ever assume they would give it back.
I have never seen any merchandise with such a terrible attitude and use such unwise ways to deal with their own mistakes. They chose to run away from their own problems, all they know is that keeping money in their hands feels sweet. Btw, they never truly feel sorry for all that happened or show any intention to think about the whole thing standing in the customer's shoes.
Unprofessional. Dishonest. Careless. Rude.

Read moreExtremely RUDE staff. They misplaced the price tag of a fish and when we found out the actual price, we didn’t want to take it. The store was not busy (it was weekday morning) at the time. The staff had not started processing the fish yet and all he needed to do was to put it back. He lifted his arm and smashed the fish back to the pile of ice with all his strength, right at our direction.
Hmart, did you train your staff in anger management? You misplaced the price tag in the first place. Why are you mad at your customer by your own mistake? Did you underpay your staff so they are full of tantrums?
Update: I went to the store and talked to the manager who has kindly retrieved the video. He has apologized for what happened and for the attitude issue the staff had. But a lady cashier insisted being in this conversation, and kept defending on behalf of the staff. She said we are over sensitive, “the staff was busy and he threw the fish as a usual routine”, “he threw the fish back to the pile, not on your body”, “you mixed up the price so he was frustrated”. Before we left the store, she mumbled something to the manager and gave us a look of disgust. Oh please lady, if you want to get a promotion, work harder, don’t fight with us and put up a show in front of your manager.
I’m appreciative of the manager’s acknowledgment of the issue. I’m appalled by the staff and the cashier who’s denying the fact even though the video footage was right in...
