The Food Breakfast is now a thing in Demiya, and my friend wanted to try it out. It is only in one location every Saturday and Sunday from 08:00 AM to 10:00 AM. We arrived around 09:00 AM and there were plenty of seats available (also soft opening). My friend and I both got the Gion (祇園) set, which comes with quite a bit. You have the choice between Dashi Omelette or Tamago Toji. My friend and I tried both and we agreed that Tamago Toji was better. Other than the Tamago Toji, I also enjoyed the Chilled Thin Somen Noodles and Mini Sanshu Bowl. Though the salmon was a bit dry and I was not a fan of the Kinako Mochi (rice ball?), it was worth a try. Of course there are several other items that are also on the menu, so might return at some point to try.

The Miscellaneous The new Demiya, at first look you can tell that it is bigger with more seating than the old one. The interior is like the old Demiya with similar chairs and tables. The service aspect is the same, where the customer will order and self service their own tray. One mention is that currently it is soft opening and meal preparation might take longer. I assume when they grand open, the operation will be much better. The new location also have new menu items from a la carte, to udon noodles, to sandwiches, to onigiri. The prices of the new menu items are comparable to the previous location. Though the Gion set was pretty pricey, you get quite a bit of food. If you are a Japanese curry fan, should...

I ordered online after a half hour of issues with the online system. I tried to contact them for support, but you can't contact them except via text. I texted the number but never received a reply. The system said my order could be ready any time between immediately and closing time. Again, there is no way to contact them to get an estimated time for the order to be ready. I waited 20-30 minutes before arriving and still had to wait at least 10 more minutes. I don't mind waiting for my food, I just want an estimated time that didn't span a window of more than an hour window. I didn't expect a two hour window like I called the cable company, but at least they will take a phone call. The food was mediocre. Not much I can say about it. Given that there is a nearby place in Hmart that makes the most of the same dishes at least as well, is quick, and answers the phone, I don't really get the appeal of this restaurant. I guess this place is geared towards those who want absolutely zero customer service and want to wait for a long, long time. Honestly, they had a decent number of staff and the food was basically all made in batches (even the fried items) so the staff just needed to assemble the dishes for orders. Somehow they managed to do this at an incredibly slow pace. A restaurant focused on serving trendy Japanese food and definitely not focused on quality, food, efficiency, or service based on my...

Edit as of 12/22/2021: As of the past year or so, the service has gone to complete trash. I have had about 90% of my orders messed up in some way, shape, or form, whether it be missing items or completely wrong items, or even confusing a take out order for dine in. Additionally, I've ordered when the store opens and the food doesn't get prepared until it's basically almost closed...almost hour and a half later! On top of that, they removed their notification system that they used to have, so now they don't even notify you anymore when your order is ready! Completely unacceptable, as this means you end up either risking your food being cold in the off chance it gets made earlier, or you wait at the restaurant for your food to be prepared for at least 30 minutes. The only reason this place doesn't get one star is because the food is unbeatable.

Original Review: Best curry I have had in a long time. It does an amazing job reminding me of home. Personally, I like to pour the entire curry on top as you will see in one of my pictures here. It's extremely flavourful and the beef is so well mixed in that it is impossible to eat with chopsticks (spoon only!) yet there is more than enough to fill you. The curry also makes great leftovers if you cannot finish it all for whatever reason.

Definitely going here...

I’ve been craving for Japanese curry recently and Demiya was the place that first pop up in my head! This was the 2nd time I visited Demiya. Their curry was one of the best Japanese curry dishes I haven’t had for a long time since I moved to Bay Area from NYC half a year ago. The waiting time could be a while. Don’t forget to check in after you place an order. We didn’t know the first time we came for dinner, so it seemed like our dish started to be made after checking in, so we waited more than 30 minutes to get our dish. This time we ordered food before going in and checked in right away when we were there. It took about 10 minutes for our food to be ready. This time it was for lunch, so it could be different. Tegone Cheese in Hamburg curry rice is a must order. I feel like this could be a totally separate dish because either the cheese hamburger or the curry rice tasted so awesome. The portion was really big and satisfying. My husband ordered Curry Udon - Tonkatsu &Sunny-side up. The curry was just right in the udon, not too heavy and salty. He loved it. But he loved dipping his tonkatsu into my curry because he thought it was a better combination to have tonkatsu with heavier curry sauce.
