The Hambak — Restaurant in San Jose

The Hambak, which is in the Cupertino/San Jose HMart on S De Anza Blvd. is by far my favorite Japanese place. The first time I went there, I tried their tonkatsu curry. It was breathtaking to say the least. The tonkatsu was really crunchy and perfectly fried. The curry might've been the best curry I've had in years. The second time I went, I tried their mozzarella corndogs and they were flawless. The mozzarella was fully melted and was very good. The outside was very crispy and tasty. Right amount of texture, seasoning and done well unagi on top of lightly seasoned rice topped with pickled ginger and seaweed salad. The seafood ramen has the right amount of sodium and tastes authentic. Hits the spot on a bit chilly spring afternoon. Ample space in the food court for seats and area is well kept. Tonkatsu was sweet without warning. Even drowning it in curry it was still sweet. It must have been marinated in sugar or something. I should have known better because Korean katsu has bitten me before, but I didn't know all Korean katsu is sweet. Don't need the diabetes, thank you.
