They hire anybody here, huh?
I've been a member of 24 for 7 years now and have never experienced discrimination until tonight. I come to this site at least once a week when Castro Valley is too packed or when Whipple feels like too much of a drive or is temporarily closed like it is now. This gym is disgusting and falling apart, but somehow, we all let it slide even though we pay a lot of money monthly. But that's a discussion for a whole different post.
What I won't let slide is being stared down while checking in and being asked by the front desk staff if "I'm drunk"? I don't understand what even prompted him to ask that question when I hardly said or did anything. Is it the way I walked in? The way I said "hello"? Why would I be drunk at the gym? After I was visibly upset by that question, he then says, "Okay, cuz you seem kinda odd". Questioning members if they're impaired is one thing, but making disrespectful comments is another. After I check in and walk away, I look back and see him and his partner still staring at me from across the gym.
I have mild cerebral palsy. I am disabled and do my best to stay strong and active. But I don't need to explain myself to them or anyone. I have never been questioned or disrespected like this before at the GYM, of all places. I felt so discouraged and uncomfortable, that I left after two minutes and took a long drive to San Ramon 24. This level of ignorance from customer service is not okay and I won't tolerate it. As I was walking out, I saw this man talking very disrespectfully to an elderly person too. Are you guys just hiring anyone now? Are these the type of people you want representing your company?
I work a very stressful job, go to school, and really push myself to make it to the gym to stay active and feel better about myself, despite my exhaustion or disability. Guess that wasn't the case tonight. I will be calling the manager as well as corporate tomorrow morning. If nothing changes, I will be canceling my membership. This is not okay. The sauna room doesn't even have a door handle, by the way. Safety, cleanliness, and common sense is nonexistent...
Read more5/21/2022: I became a member since late November. I picked 24 hour fitness because I hoped that they would open 24 hours again. Due to work I can go to the gym very late night. Eventually they reopened 24 hours but the few things are restricted. Most importantly the basketball court. When I was getting the tour I was told by the guy convincing me to open a membership with them that I would always have access to the entire gym. I paid $500 dollars just like most members that do the one payment and I get denied access to the basketball court because I go there at night when it's peaceful? Now today I show up a locked gym and wondering why? I flagged the security on my way out and I asked if they knew why the gym was closed? They told me that because they did not have any workers and that is was sad. In the big scale my $500 dollars aren't much but to pay that much money and have parts of the gym denied, have broken down machines that sit for days and days with an "out of service" paper taped to it and to top it all off I have to wonder if they have someone that'll keep the gym open? The security was right. It's sad and doesn't make me feel wanting to renew my membership. This could easily be a nice 5 star rating but it just doesn't make sense. Instead of having up to 4 employees talking during the day doing nothing have some more in the late night instead of having a single person bored out of their mind. Take care of your employees and your customers.
Update 5/28/2022: Arrived to a closed gym. Wasted my time to get to a gym that's supposed to be closed.
Update 6/4/2022: Arrived to a closed gym again. This place must not keep their employees happy because they can't hire someone and get current employees to cover the...
Read moreCORRY G. who works at the front desk, was very inconsiderate and rude. Not only to myself, but to a few others. Which resulted in 3 people storming out. After declining my “ 3 FREE DAYS” which they promoted on their website, as well offering to pay for a “day pass”, I was still denied access. With no explanation! I was confused and asked for the reason. All I wanted was clarification, or at least help me figure a way to get in! FOR SOME REASON, know one will ever know, CORRY G. insisted that somehow I was questioning his “authority”. I didnt know asking questions was wrong of me. He then went ahead and gathered others attention, and made a whole announcement about OUR conversation. Which was highly unacalled for. He was trying to intimidate and make me feel singled out. He was escalating the situation without trying to help me. All I wanted was to WORKOUT! FINALLY, He shares that the only way for me to workout was to be accompanied by someone with a membership as well that their membership must include a “buddy pass”. I then ask my friend to help me get in. Corry then lies to us, stating that my friends membership didnt include that deal ALTHOUGH it reflected in his account on his phone. We tried showing him, but he wouldnt bother looking into it. At that point i felt targeted for no reason!!!! I offered to buy a month pass, (mind you, Im here visiting from Alaska for a week!) he then leaves me waiting for 10-15 minutes, as if i have nowhere to be. After 40 minutes i was finally let in. CORRY G. Showed his true colors. Childish, Power hungry, and a bully in disguise. I have a clip of our interaction towards the end. People like him need more training, or just treat other kindly man! Cmon be...
