This is one impressive tree! Really impressive. Different sources call it the biggest, as say it is on the National Register of Big Trees. Well I do my research and have been unable to locate this tree on national registers. Never trust everything you read on the web. So after some digging I find a Moreton Bay Fig in San Diego that is taller. This particular registry calls the Santa Barbara tree the one with the largest canopy. The national registry's are typically for native North American trees. The Moreton Bay Fig was brought to the US from Easter Australia. So..... What are you going to believe? Who knows? Well I sure don't know for sure. I am sure that this tree is huge, ginormous, really big, impressive and well worthy of a visit when in Santa Barbara. It is very near the Amtrak Station. One big...

Stumbled upon the Moreton Bay Fig Tree in Santa Barbara completely by accident — I was just looking for cigarettes and ended up finding a little vape shop. And then boom, this massive tree appears out of nowhere right in the middle of the street. It’s not one of those overly touristy spots with signs and crowds — you’re just driving, and suddenly there’s this ancient, gigantic tree next to what I think was a railway track. No tourists, no noise, just this majestic thing standing there. Super impressive, honestly....

So glad I came to see this rare gem. I ❤️ trees. They give me hope for this planet. I follow a YT’er (Max and Occy) and he has an over 500 y.o. Moreton Fig on his 5 acres in 🇦🇺. I visit this one every summer. Unfortunately, not all respect the earth and this tree would be ruined if it weren’t for the chainlink fence surrounding it’s space. Wish SB would do better to protect it and make it more beautiful.
