Nestled in the heart of Santa Barbara, The Lark is a culinary gem that takes your taste buds on an unforgettable journey. From the moment we stepped through the door, we were enveloped in an atmosphere of rustic charm and warm hospitality. To begin our culinary adventure, we indulged in the Brown Butter Cornbread, a delightful starter that set the tone for the evening. Its perfectly golden crust and rich, buttery flavor were simply divine. The Pimento Cheese on Texas Toast was a comforting classic elevated to perfection, while the Crispy Brussels Sprouts provided a crispy, flavorful contrast. For our mains, we opted for the Wayne Farm Buttermilk Fried Chicken and the Sage Smoked Pork Chop. The fried chicken was a crispy, juicy masterpiece, its flavors reminiscent of a home-cooked meal with a gourmet twist. The Sage Smoked Pork Chop was a triumph of smokiness and tenderness, expertly seasoned and cooked to perfection. The culinary journey reached the end with the desserts. The Apple Crisp, with its warm, cinnamon-kissed apples and crispy topping, was a comforting hug on a plate. The Olive Oil Cake was a revelation, its moist texture and subtle olive oil flavor paired wonderfully with the accompanying elements, creating a dessert that was both sophisticated and indulgent. What sets The Lark apart is not only the exceptional quality of the cuisine but also the impeccable service. The staff's knowledge and passion for the menu were evident, enhancing our dining experience. The ambiance, with its blend of rustic charm and contemporary elegance, added to the overall allure of the evening. In summary, dining at The Lark Santa Barbara is not just a meal; it's a gastronomic adventure that tantalizes the senses and leaves a lasting impression. Each dish is a testament to the chef's creativity and dedication to delivering an exceptional culinary experience. If you're looking for a place to indulge in exquisite flavors and impeccable service, The Lark Santa Barbara is an absolute must-visit. Prepare your taste buds for a journey they won't soon forget.

Over-hyped restaurant. Would not go back. Where to start on this one... first impressions were great. Super cute space with lovely warm and inviting lighting. Unfortunately, it went downhill quickly from there. Greeting: we were slightly early for our table so we were asked to wait outside. Totally fine about this request. The waiting area had two benches in a small space that was full of people. It was dark (I mean no lighting), cold and uninviting. Plus one of the guests was blaring TV on his phone so we wouldn't have been able to talk. We saw an empty table in the unused outdoor area which was lit and had heaters on. None of the tables were set so we were clearly not impeding on the restaurant operations. We sat there happily waiting until the hostess told us the area was closed (even though there was one table eating there) and we had to move.... to stand in the cold, dark waiting area. She was not even nice about it... she was super rude and acted offended. Strike one. Our service: Phoenix, one of the rudest waiters I've ever had. He had a superficially pleasant tone but he was condescending, agressive and unpleasant. He challenged my husband about his question on the tuna risotto with a nasty tone (why does seared tuna on corn risotto seem unusual??). He walked away mid-conversation several times when we responded to one of his comments. He told my mother in law she wouldn't like a spicy dish (without discussing her taste preferences first). Thr entire meal was negatively impacted by his awful behaviour. It was so bad that we debated not leaving a tip - a cardinal sin the the US. Strike two. Drinks: My drink was super interesting. We all agreed it smelled like an Indian dish. I enjoyed it. My daughter had a non-alcoholic drink that was strong but good. The wine was good too. Strong suit for the Lark. Food: It was hit and miss. The popcorn starter was unusual but good. The Brussels sprouts were too sweet as was the cornbread (the rosemary seasoning was great). That could be more about my palate rather than the food. The fried chicken was slightly too salty but it was amazingly cooked. It went well with the bread and butter pickles. The grits were creamy, salty and sweet, and unusually large. I'm a southerner and I've never had grits cooked this way. They weren't bad, just not what I expected. The wedge salad was over salted for my teenager's taste. The Tuna Risotto was unusual but my husband thought it was fine. My mother in law was incredibly disappointed with her shrimp dish. So much so she said it shouldn't be on the menu. Strike three I've given it 3 stars because of the ambience and some of the food / drinks were good. It doesn't make up for the rudeness of the staff (hostess, server, and busboy) which was horrendous, the food that wasn't good and the dark waiting area. Btw, that guy that was watching TV on his phone when we arrived, watched TV the entire time we were eating (the waiting area was right next to our table and we had to listen to it throughout dinner) and was still watching TV when we left.

During our recent visit to Lark, we were greeted by an ambiance that exuded sophistication and warmth. The attentive and amiable demeanor of our waiter set the stage for an exceptional dining experience. It was evident that the staff at Lark takes great pride in delivering impeccable service. The food at Lark surpassed our expectations in both presentation and flavor. Each dish was a work of art, meticulously crafted to be both aesthetically pleasing and a delight to the taste buds. The attention to detail was evident in every bite, showcasing the culinary expertise of the chefs. One standout dish that deserves special mention is the cornbread. It truly redefined our perception of this classic staple. The cornbread at Lark is an absolute sensation, exuding an irresistible combination of flavors and textures. Its harmonious blend of rosemary and honey creates a symphony on the palate, leaving a lingering impression that is nothing short of extraordinary. In addition to the exceptional food, Lark boasts an ambiance that complements the dining experience perfectly. The tasteful decor and well-appointed seating create an inviting atmosphere that encourages conversation and relaxation. It is a testament to the thoughtfulness put into every aspect of the restaurant’s design. Overall, our visit to Lark was a culinary journey that left us thoroughly satisfied and appreciative of the artistry behind the dishes. We went there without making a reservation on a Monday night and got a table outside next to a fireplace. It wasn’t as fancy as inside but the atmosphere was cozy and cool. Even though this is clearly an expensive place (~$50/person + drinks), I give them 5 stars because their flavors and ingredients really surprised us. The service was great too, which made the whole experience memorable. We followed our waitresses’ recommendations and first tried the Hope Ranch mussels. They were super fresh with a slight lemon flavor. But what surprised us in that dish were the celery roots which have a subtle flavor but were the perfect complement. I had never tried them. Then we ordered a the pappardelle which is a hand cut pasta with a white sauce (not very creamy) that also surprised us. It wasn’t the typical pasta. It had a poached egg, fancy mushrooms, squash, and hazelnuts. We decided not to finish the pasta and take it home in order to have enough room for dessert. We ordered a pumpkin spice panna cotta and it was also delicious. It was crunchy and soft at the same time, and it had plenty of pumpkin spice. We loved it. All the ingredients in the food were fresh and you definitely feel the “farm to table”. For drinks we decided to go for a beer and cider respectively. They also have around 8 cocktails (~$17) and a long wine menu. I would recommend coming if you are willing to pay those prices. I would come back for a special occasion since it’s some of the best food I’ve had in Santa Barbara.

Easy to make a reservation, I enjoyed the environment it was modern yet simple. I enjoyed the experience with the French press coffee, I ordered it with oatmilk, very nice, simple. I ordered a Cast Iron Baked Shakshuka,(cheese on the side, take into consideration that I can’t have cheese, so the taste I experienced won’t be the same to those who can have cheese), and too spicy for my liking but a little bit enjoyable. You can order more toast if you want to finish the red sauce, I didn’t, I was done with the spicy. The service was great along with their water, I criticize the quality of water in the restaurants and this water tasted really good, like filtered great water. The fried chicken with waffle was very simple somewhat enjoyable for kids and some that like that kind of food. I wouldn’t order it personally, I like trying new things from time to time. This place is worth trying at least once. I wouldn’t go back, their quality of food could improve, again taking into consideration that I’m limited by my lactose allergy, so my experience won’t necessarily be the same as others. The surrounding seemed like they are either the same owners or the same community, since they are restaurants attached to each other. The rest. share the big space, but they are still separated from each other. It’s surrounded by beautiful plants which I enjoyed very much. I would go back just for the plants and sit outside in a warmer day and try another restaurant.

We came here for dinner and had a phenomenal culinary experience! We reserved a table outside on their spacious patio and once we sat down our sever brought over the most delicious tasting popcorn. It had a wonderful spice to it and was very hard not to devour the entire thing in two seconds. We did have to ask to be moved to a different table outside as the one we were originally seated at was surrounded by these little birds that kept flying by our head and trying to get close to our popcorn. It was just a little annoying and I wanted to make sure we enjoyed our dinner, which we ended up doing. They like to serve everything family style so you order all items at once and they come out all together. We ended up ordering three items for the two of us to share…we went with the Whipped Sheep's Feta & Pistachio Dip, Crispy Halloumi & Butternut Squash, and the Grilled Prime Hanger Steak. Everything had phenomenal flavor and the hanger steak came with these blistered shishitos peppers which were prepared to perfection! The three courses were a perfect amount of food for the two of us. The service started out really good as the restaurant wasn’t too crowded but once the place started to fill in, the attentiveness faded off a little. Wasn’t too big of a deal but was just something we noticed. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience and cannot wait to come back again!!
