Do you love Sports Cards, Pokémon Cards, &/or Exceptional Customer Service? Bored? Need a break from your nagging spouse? Then I encourage you to buckle up and come along on the journey that is my experience with Baseline Sports Cards! This may not be the review you want, but IT’S THE REVIEW YOU NEED! Especially for locals that are looking for a great place to BUY & SELL!
After traveling for the last 5 weeks, (primarily chasing my own tail & hunting for some snow bunnies/suburban cougars) I stopped at dozens of card shops along the way & Baseline Sports Cards has been made my honorable mention! [Suburban cougars are known to bring their young to these shops for Sports cards & Pokemon singles. Given the number of single mothers and fatherless children in the world today, I figure kill two birds with one stone and find me a soulmate/suburban cougar & see if she needs a stepfather to help raise all them kids]
Many times, especially this trip, a reoccurring theme where card shops would intentionally try to deceive me when buying singles from me by butterin me up with “we pay 70% market price or more in cash or 80% for store credit” “Heck Yeah, Buster! Sounds like a great deal to me! I have them scanned if you wanna go through the list & verify everything.” “No we have to look up each one individually, ourselves” Instead, they look up each card one at a time & over analyze each card, hypercritically & like a “Final Boss” version of my ex, they’d find issues where none exist & speak to me with condescending tones and responses. Ask again if it’s market price or low at this time! “we actually go by the lowest sold price on recent sales.” (Code for “I’m a cheap duck”) Which ends up being about 35% of ACTUAL market price. But enough about the villains! We’re here for superheroes, baby!
Baseline Sports Cards! Upon entering I was greeted with a warm welcome and smiling faces, 1st impression of the store was 5 stars as far as the cleanliness, everything was clean cut, displays were well organized, presentation was simple to navigate, aesthetically.
Rocky introduced himself to me and away we went! Now, aside from Rocky being very charismatic, polite, and exactly what I expected a modern Rocky to look like, he was very… Altruistic.. The way he unselfishly interacted with me in negotiating for my collection actually made me feel like he valued the opportunity to buy from me. Which I illogically interpreted as “this guy’s trying to f°rķ me” (Trust issues, I know.. See, normally when selling a collection like this, the cheapskate behind the counter pinches every penny so hard you can hear all those little Abe Linkies screaming “HEEEEELLP!”) whispers “me too, Abe… me too…”
I soon realized my paranoia & insecurities were just delusional fabrications created by my neurodivergent mind; probably from similar experiences that had traumatic impact on me.
I have been to at least 100+ hobby shops over the last several years during my annual road trips, & I have never met someone that was so in tune with me as far as negotiating larger collections. It was like we tuned into 101.2 FNFQ The Fair Negotiation Frequency broadcast radio station! We had divided the collection into different groups based on value/condition & when we got to talking numbers I would be doing math on my calculator & by the time Rocky would shoot me a price on one section of the cards I would turn my phone to him to show him EXACTLY the same number, second he finished his sentence! Several times, Same result! At no point did we strictly go by “percentages” because that’s how eerily harmonious this interaction was!
This was hands down the smoothest & most equitable negotiation I personally have ever experienced when it comes to selling a larger collection (& I have bought and sold many dozens of larger collections)! The last thing Rocky asked me was to rate his service 1-10 so he could get honest feedback! I said 9+ Because we can always improve! Upon reflection MY personal best experience with a card shop! Thanks again, Rocky & Baseline...
Read moreI got back into card collecting back in March, partly due to Covid and partly due to missing some nostalgia from my youth. The game has changed a lot and the guys (Ryan, Daryl and Donald) helped me understand this new card world. The first card I bought from them was a Jersey Patch/Auto of Zach LaVine and my obsession started from that swipe of my debit card.
Little did I know that Baseline also offers breaks and that’s when my obsession really took off. Daryl handles the breaks and he is funny, courteous and knows his stuff. He keeps us up to date with new releases as well as nails out our cards promptly. I haven’t really visited any other card shops because I really don’t need too.
Love this place and everything it stands for, I am a forever customer and that will never change. Do me a favor and check this place out, you’ll be a card wizard in no time!
P.S. got stopped for speeding in Schaumburg (on my way to Baseline) the cop asked why was I going so fast? I told him I’m going to a card shop called Baseline. He went back and ran my stuff and walked back to my car. He told me to slow down and said he loves...
Read moreI really don’t have any clue how this place is good reviews. They had decent selection but staff was so rude. I am young man so maybe that’s why I was treated differently.
Since I had never been there before; I stopped at the bank beforehand and had serious cash to spend. They were not even giving me the time of day. I even came in with cheap and toss away/commons but big names and guy didn’t even want to talk shop. There loss I guess. I went down the street and bought about thousands worth of memorabilia/collectibles. Since they’re staff actually acted like they were selling anything. I came in with stuffed binder and the guy flipped one or two pages and said “we don’t buy cards like this” without even knowing what I had.
I got the feeling these two dudes may have been into sports but not good at playing them or didn’t make the cut as kids..I felt like I was back in high school and hall monitor he is acting like he’s all that and doesn’t have the time.
Or like I was interrupting the dudes at the counter by even coming in. Saw a bunch of 2020 boxes..this isn’t for collectors; it’s for...
