Had my dad in this facility for 1.5 weeks recently after he ended up in the ER for severe dehydration... and we deeply regret it! The first day he was admitted, we noticed right away that it was a dirty place, had threadbare sheets with little holes in them, an old broken bed (which had to be repaired to be able to use the up/down/tilt electronic features on it), a small dresser in which one handle was hanging sideways by 1 screw (I fixed it myself) and none of the drawers could easily be opened or closed, old peeling stained wallpaper. I got there 2 hours after they admitted him there and no one had even been in to see him yet. I stayed for a few hours then had to head home. I tried chasing people down to change his diaper and was told they'd be in soon and never came. As I was leaving, I chased down a few different people and asked them to be sure he got changed soon and was assured they would.
I got there the next morning and learned that they left him in a soiled diaper for 16.5 hours until 8:30 am the next morning!! 😡 I was livid!! He didn't get any meds the 1st night or in the morning... he didn't get any until the 2nd night, and only a few of them at that. They were all goofed up until the very end when he realized he had only been getting half the dose of one of them that he should've been getting the entire time. So they corrected that for the last 2 days at least. 🙄
They are grossly understaffed there and use mostly agency staff, which were very negligent of the patients (telling them they'll be right back to change him, bring something for him, clean/change wounds, etc. and never coming back). I had to chase people down frequently for assistance for my dad... Just imagine how much worse it is for the poor people in there that have no family/visitors advocating for them! Often saw agency staff sitting around, playing on cell phones, talking on the phone or listening to music with their ear pods in while "working", and ignoring call lights or oatients yelling out to them for help. Completely unacceptable...
They didn't clean him well (if at all) when changing his soiled diapers. Most of the time they would just pull the dirty one off and throw a new one on. The rooms were dirty and had splotches of poo and dried stains on the floors, toilet, ants all over the bathroom floor, etc. It's just a very old, dingy, and dirty facility in general.
Gratefully, the daylight shift was pretty decent and much more reliable than the 2 later shifts combined. That brought me at least a little bit of comfort knowing that if I couldn't be there while I was working during the day, I knew that he was in better hands during those hours.
Thanks to the night shifts' neglect, the cherry on top of all this is that he ended up catching NOROVIRUS while in there (which I then caught from him a few days later, what fun! 😒), a new bed sore which they weren't properly caring for, cleaning, or covering (which got much worse over time), and a yeast infection under his belly flap (from not properly cleaning him). When he was released after 10 days there, he ended up back in the ER 2 days later and was admitted to the hospital because, apparently, he came home with 2 more "parting gifts" of COVID and a UTI! So, his health declined quickly as a result of being in that facility (which is the complete opposite of what should have happened!).
I urge you to NOT put your loved ones in this facility if you care about them and want them to get better. They have a LOT of improving to do before it will ever be a decent facility, including giving up agency staff and, instead, hiring GOOD ...
Read moreMy father was in Carnegie Park Post Acute for more than a month following an 11-day hospital stint for a GI emergency and bout with pneumonia. I can't say enough about the admissions staff, social worker, Kayle, front desk attendant, Ms. Sheila, Ron and his PT team, the speech team, the nursing staff, and extended care staff including Cece. My 85-year-old dad improved tremendously during his stay, and I felt relieved to know that he was in good hands on days that I could not visit. Whenever I visited, Kayle and Ron in particular gave me a thorough report, and I could tell that they were personally invested in his care. I can tell that the new administration in the transition from Genesis to Carnegie Park wants to do a good job and are holding staff to a high standard. I can say without hesitation that my father's quality of life improved during his stay at Carnegie Park.
(I still rated 5 stars because the important aspects of care were met, but as with all post-acute care facilities, as the family, you need to stay on top of laundry. I did his laundry until I had it all labeled, but we had to stay on top of CP once we transitioned to them doing the laundry. I requested for his laundry to be completed before discharge to an assisted living facility, and it was not. In the grand scheme of things, this was minor for us but one area where CP...
Read moreThis place is a joke. The management are rude and condescending. They are unapproachable if you are a new agency worker. The aides were literally cursing, yelling and about to come to blows fighting in the hallway but weren’t reprimanded at all yet a nurse that wanted to nit pick with me my whole shift had the nerve to call herself telling on me for me to be sent home lmao. They rather you be a brown nosing ass kissing lazy aide. Don’t flatter yourselves I wasn’t returning to the facility anyhow. From the time I walked in it wasn’t anything but negative energy, side eyes and attitude anytime I asked a question. I see why they don’t have staff to begin with they hid the entire shift while the other 2 agency aides and I were up and down our hallways trying to figure things out and satisfy the residents who knew we were new faces. Pathetic facility, management, and nurses. I’m not in the business of striking egos and unlike them my reviews are great because the facilities I go to know that my residents are in great hands and care. I should have kept driving when I...
