This is an incredible grocery store offering clean bathrooms, 56 cashiers, NO waiting lines, and a wide variety of produce from all over the world.
No images or videos are allowed to be captured inside, so I only have a couple and they were taken before the store manager approached me to endorse their policy.
This Farmer's Market is surely one if its kind.
There's no other store like this in GA.
However, they do NOT have organic broccoli, organic pasta, organic olives, organic papaya, AND their organic avocados were $2.49 EACH. Very disappointing.
They also have NO BULK section for nuts, seeds, or grains. Their selection of nuts is incredibly limited. Same with seeds and grains.
Additionally, they had absolutely no olives, except green ones.
It's called an international market but there was no Russian section. I am Russian and typically I shop at Farmers Market on Buford Hwy where the Russians built a giant middle section with everything imaginable. And you can taste things there.
Dekalb Farmers Market has a limited cooked and ready food section and they do not offer anything for tasting. Very unusual and disappointing.
That is the only negative about my experience with the store. Overall, to go there took 4 hours and it was my first and last time.
WHAT I LOVED ABOUT DEKALB FARMERS MARKET:
Selection of organic produce: reddish, onions, garlic, cucumbers, tomatoes, squash, kale if all sorts, bell peppers, apples, pineapple, plums, oranges, grapes, lemons, and on and on. I'm attaching an image of my cart at the exit - I loaded it completely and the total was $125. I am vegan, so no animal products.
Variety of organic vegan bread. This one is a surprise - I had never ever seen so so many different healthy organic vegan breads. AND it's the only product they allow to taste. I walked out of there with two and a half loafs!
Cleanness of bathrooms. This one is a big one because I drove an hour to get there! Bathrooms at Sprouts and Buford Hwy Farmers Market where I typically shop are always in terrible condition.
Staff ready to help. People there hardly speak English but they ask each other for help and they are very friendly. As giant as the sales floor is, it's only 50% of the actual Farmers Market which requires 24/7 operation and three shifts of workers. They open 8-9 to business and 9-9 to the public. I admire their story and my only request is that for more organic products like pasta, olives, broccoli, Brussel Sprouts, etc.
Parking is plenty and free. Storage for carts everywhere. There's no chaos driving around waiting, though I must note that I went there at 2 pm on a Thursday.
Cashiers are plenty, they are nice, and they pay attention. To be exact, a total of 56 cashiers work non-stop. This store DOES NOT ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS, only cash or debit. This store DOES NOT ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS, only cash or debit. I'm just making sure you're paying attention The cashiers told me this is often a big problem with first-timers. So, remember: This store DOES NOT ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS, only cash or debit.
Cleanness of the sales floor and the presentation of products. They work hard to keep up with thousands of customers daily. I admire what their founder and president built in the last 38 years.
Quality of organic produce. It's hard to catch good organic lemons at Sprouts; nearly always they are spoiled. I had never seen an organic seedless watermelon in America in my 12 years here. But this store offers both in great quality! Though the green seedless grapes - organic - taste awful. But I tried the other things I bought and they are really good.
Enjoy! Hope this help make your trip to DeKalb Farmers Market a...
Read moreTHIS SHOULD BE WORLD FAMOUS!! I've been to Pike Place Market in Seattle, and Borough Market in London, some other iconic food places. This is the most amazing, best, interesting one BY FAR. It's about the size of three Super Walmarts, and that's just the ground floor. There is a top floor that handles cooking, packaging etc. Start on the right end and load up on wine. Low prices and there's a few sommeliers most hours. Look over the wall of spices packed in-house. REALLY good no salt chili powder. Wander the sections of pickles, veg, condiments, oils, candy, grains and such before rolling through the best produce section anywhere. 4 or 7 kinds each of bananas, peaches, apples, etc. Basil, peppers, squash in much variety. Yucca, Coconuts, cactus... There is stuff that you'll have to google to identify. The back wall holds tofu, refrigerated grain stuff.... And...get it? There's a fresh fish section with shark or huge tuna getting broken down. If you know good sushi in ATL, it probably starts here. There's a fresh meat market, and a cheese/cured meat area. Homemeade pasta and sauces (really good putanesca) in the refrigerated area. If you are peckish there's a coffee/pastry counter by the fresh flowers. Come hungry and eat at the cafeteria where you pay by the pound for truly global food. Samosas are individually charged for...dunno. Get some Thai stir fry, goat stew, mac and cheese and a tamale. YES, the table rocks and its loud and dirty but it beats eating ONE of these dishes and waiting for a gut disaster in Berzerkistan or etc. Also, it's cheap. Crowded, loud, confusing too. Always. This place should have folks flying to Atlanta just to experience it. If I meet someone from ATL I always ask if they know this place. NEVER met someone that's been that doesn't think it's awesome. Folks that never have been while living...
Read moreBest selection and value for grocery shopping in Atlanta! I cannot begin to express how much I love the Dekalb Farmer's Market. I rave to people about it all of the time.
They have the freshest and largest selection of produce, which is half of the price of a regular grocery store. Not to mention, their produce seems to last twice as long. If you need something very specific, this is the place to get it. I stock up on fruit, veggies, and herbs from here. I love that I can get a bag of spinach for $3, which would normally cost $6 at the grocery store. I can get a giant bunch of dill or basil for $2, when I would get about 1/8 of the amount for $3 elsewhere.
They also have such an amazing bread and deli selection. They have a ton of different meat and cheese. We love cheese and charcuterie. I can get 1/2 lb of prosciutto here for the same price as one small pack at the grocery store. That's at least twice as much. I also use a ton of feta and parmesan cheese. Its literally 1/3 of the price for twice as much here. All of their meat is very fresh. Again, I will get chicken breasts and sausge for half of the price at the store, and the quality is much better.
The deli counter sells great fresh products, like salsa, olives, chicken salad, and so on. They have great fresh bread and a small bakery with desserts. They also have an amazing hot meal line. It's better than Whole Foods and much less expensive. In addition, you can get fresh ground coffee, peanut butter, and almond butter.
The beer and wine selection is also enormous. There is a pretty nice selection of international wines, and some domestic and craft beers.
Like I said, I rave about the Dekalb Farmer's Market all of the time. I could go on for days. This is where I do a majority of my grocery shopping, and it is delicious and saves me hundreds of...
