Katy Depot — Attraction in Sedalia

I'm happy I got a chance to stop in to Katy Depot during my stay in Sedalia. It happened to be on my walk across town, and I had time to kill, so I checked it out.

The person working was very kind and informative. She opened up the exhibit area so I could walk through and take pictures. She also found me a brochure on the Scott Joplin Ragtime Festival, which I hope to return to Sedalia for.

The gift shop had everything you think of when you think of Sedalia. Books on the town's history, train-themed gifts, magnets, "JamTrak" (yes, Amtrak-themed jam...I love a pun), coffee mugs, etc. Oh, and CDs of ragtime music. The Depot is an old rail stop. You can explore the inside and there are some interesting items inside and outside for young and old. The bike rental/repair shop is closed so if you want to ride the Katy Trail from here to need your own. Katy train depot is a wonderfully restored building within which is a great little museum and adjoining gift shop. The museum offers a very interesting pictorial history with accompanying narrative. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit there and became much better informed about rail travel at that point in time, the orphan train and much more that we had not been aware of. Great...
