Pretty much a waste of both space and tax dollars. While the old library was admittedly a bit cramped, this new one is over-the-top, ridiculously, pointlessly voluminous.
All the good old books were tossed, and as is the trend in all new libraries- they've been replaced by a plethora of materials with a distinctively Leftist political axe to grind.
The "Quiet Reading Room" is virtually never occupied, except maybe in winter. For one - the genius architechs stuck this glass walled greenhouse in the south east corner of the second floor, where there's all day solar gain. Also, its ever-closed entry door which permits no air exchange, and the heat from the first floor also contributes to the mild simmering temperatures within. Gobs of uncomfortable chairs fill most of this poorly planned waste of space.
This is where the periodicals are housed- all both of them. Seriously- only three shelves, each under ten feet long?
Due to that, the number of magazines and papers available there is a tiny fracton of what the old library had.
That's my primary reason for objecting to this overblown, mindless waste of tax payer dollars. The essence of a library should be to provide hard copies reading materials; the more the merrier. In that regard as noted here, the new Seguin Public Library is disappointingly...
Read moreThey changed the rules for the gardening class. I went to the fall garden planning class with my children who are under school age and was thrilled to be able to participate in the gardening class even as a mom without somewhere to take my kids while in the class. I rsvp'd for the spring garden planning class when I saw it on the event calendar. Unfortunately they neglected to put out any info regarding a rule change which disallowed children at the class. I showed up and was told I was not allowed due to having my children with me. When I saw the event calendar there was no info regarding this change or in the online rsvp. I am upset as it is a limited space event and I would not have signed up if I knew I could not take my kids as I had prior. Also, now this event, and others I am sure, is inaccessible to moms with small children. Just want the info out there for people who may be interested as I was not made aware of...
Read moreA gorgeous facility with helpful staff and quiet areas for reading, researching or just contemplating nature. A tastefully furnished second-floor outdoor deck and floor-to-ceiling windows that flood natural light into the building make this more than a good library. Bordered by a park and paved riverside walking trails, the Seguin Library is a cultural gem and peaceful oasis downtown.
Kudos to the city and Guadalupe County for keeping this facility open while other library districts (notably San Antonio) have shuttered theirs during COVID. Seguin has shown how to provide public service with a clean, safe and welcoming...
