First, I really do try to leave only positive reviews. Most of the time I'll just move along if something is wrong, but in this case I do feel like others would benefit from this... my diet is gluten-free, so I ordered the A-Tan Tray which comes with a sushi roll that is "chef's choice". I understand that means I can't choose exactly which roll I get. No problem except I requested no tempura because I cannot eat wheat. The roll came out with tempura in/on it. Tempura is crispy fried wheat. Ok, that's just a mistake... no problem except the server seemed to not want to exchange it, and when she did the roll that I got in teturn was less than half the portion size as the original. A second challenge was that my wife wanted a "non-meat" meal, so after scouring the menu decided on Pineapple stir fry. The menu didn't have meat listed in the description at all. We thought it was just stir fry rice with pineapple. Nope, it was loaded with shrimp, chicken, and beef. Ok, just another misunderstanding, except now we simply asked that they take it back and remove it from the bill. They responded with, "no, you can take it home and eat it as leftovers". Even after talking with a manager, they were unwilling to remove it from the bill. We weren't just being "Karens", really... our bill overall came to $250 for our whole table. This was our son's birthday party and we were trying to be kind and have a good time. The food that we did eat was ok, not amazing, but ok. Service was mediocre. On a positive note, the back patio at the Seguin...
Read moreExcellent! Seguin Surprise! Really enjoyed the evening at A-Tan . Beautiful standout building. Parking right out front. Walked into a bustling Bistro and Bar and greeted by Hostess and other servers immediately. We asked to sit at the classic sushi bar and our server welcomed us and took our drink order in less than a minute. We ordered a 370ml bottle of cold non-filtered sake the server recommended, ordered a couple bowls of their Miso soup and checked out their menu. My son is a regular at their New Braunfels location and picked out his go-to favorites. To start, the Lobster Tower and the Gruene Roll. I ordered the Squid Salad and a couple of my favorite raw seafood rolls; Yellowtail Roll and Tuna roll. The Miso soup came out quickly and it was excellent. They were generous with the Miso and tofu and got us started-off nicely. The Lobster Tower was spectacular and I’d highly recommend that to anyone. The combination of sauces used in this dish were excellent. See the picture I posted to appreciate the presentation, The Squid Salad was exceptional and they added fresh fresh cucumber and their own touch that made this dish a favorite. The Rolls were nicely put together and the classic Tuna roll was fresh and the attention to detail was appreciated. The Yellowtail roll was excellent as well. I decided to plan a visit to try the Nigiri and Sashimi in a couple weeks! This was a great find and I expect to make this one of my go-to...
Read morePicked up sushi to try from this Seguin location for the first time. First of all, some of the fish did not taste very fresh and some wasn’t even cold. And we were only there maybe 2 or 3 min past the pick up time specified. We ordered the shrimp spring rolls, 3 sushi rolls and sashimi regular and the portions were ridiculously tiny compared to other sushi places in the area. Roll slices were all very small in diameter and the sashimi was cut very thinly. And their prices aren’t cheaper here either! One roll we even paid $2 more for crawfish and spicy Mayo on top and didn’t receive either one! The spring roll wrapping was so sticky and limp that the spring rolls just fell apart trying to eat them. Would definitely not recommend sushi from here. Maybe their other food might be better, but we wanted sushi. The sushi from HEB is just as good, if not better. And HEB’s rolls and sashimi are bigger too!Disappointing; especially for how expensive it was....
