Even though we've been here 2 times already and swore we would never stay there again, our 12 year old son wanted to go here and since we were bringing his friend, we decided to bite the bullet and stay here again for the convenience of the water park being "down the hallway" (forgetting it's not worth the 1+ mile walk either) for the boys, as opposed to something we would need to drive them to. Unfortunately, we were immediately reminded of why we swore we would never book another stay. My biggest complaint is that EVERYTHING here is EXTREMELY overpriced. They are banking on the "convenience" and taking it straight to the bank! With that being said, it is 100000000% worth staying elsewhere and get a day pass (if coming here at all). The rooms are DIRTY! Our sheets were clearly not changed as they had loose dirt IN them on top of brown and red smears. Good luck getting the towels, shampoo, soaps and other amenities you will need. Check in does not start until 4pm (unless you pay extra of course) and checkout is at 11am (unless you pay extra of course). The staff (Jeremiah in the arcade entrance near the water park in particular) was EXTREMELY RUDE, with only a couple of staff being an exception. Lifeguards were unhelpful kids with whistles and no words. NOBODY WAS ON STAFF AT THE FIRST AID STATION, RESULTING IN MULTIPLE PEOPLE ON RADIOS LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO ASSIST A COUPLE OF PARENTS WITH KIDS NEEDING ASSISTANCE. Even a bartender was involved as they were frantically trying to find someone. We literally saw 3 different people throw up in the middle of the park and after standing there for 10 minutes telling people to watch out for the massive piles of vomit on the ground, someone finally showed up in no hurry to "clean" it. But the way they "cleaned" it was disgustingly NOT sanitary at all and without regard to everyone unknowingly walking through it while working to "clean" (push it with a broom until dissolved) it. Furthermore, it was FREEZING inside the water park, despite it being indoors, making enjoying the water nearly impossible. You are asked how much you want to tip for nearly every transaction on top of the ridiculous charges with random 15% "convenience charges" on top of everything. If you stay here, do NOT link your payment method to the wrist bands. They do not work anywhere INCLUDING THE LOCKERS. DO NOT PURCHASE THE NIGHT OWL PACKAGE, AS ONLY 3 slides are left open. EVERYTHING ELSE is shut down including the smaller slides, wave pool, etc., but they of course do not tell you that! The arcade games and rides are insanely overpriced with some play cards starting at $99!!! Do not, I repeat DO NOT purchase this card. Your kids will only want to do the "rides/events" once, as they are each disappointingly uneventful so do not waste your money on the "unlimited" cards. Kids prices end at 11 years old. I am shocked to not have heard any disasters on the news already about this place. Then again, we live out of the area, so it may be worth...
Read moreWe had a fun, short visit here. We were here for a volleyball tournament and visited the Waterpark for a few hours. The line for the 2-person slide was about 30 minutes. It was a fun go. The water was not warm, but it was tolerable. The lifeguard/attendant was fairly rude as I got off the slide. My contacts had been pushed up into my eyes, and I needed to adjust my swimsuit, and she just kept telling me to get off the slide on my left. Well, I was still trying to get my discombobulated, middle-aged mom self adjusted, making sure I didn't shat myself, and 'gain my footing' before we had a scene at the bottom of the slide. Rude.
The lazy river isn't lazy. My gut couldn't sit in the tube to ride, but thankfully the bottom of the lazy river was smooth as my toes dragged as the water jets kept us moving.
Onto the next. Time for the wave pool. Made it in up to my knees. Nah. Too cold. My husband and teen daughter made it for a few minutes. I headed over to the bar. Waited for 15 minutes soaking wet to be noticed. They wouldn't serve me because I didn't have my ID. I'm 42. FORTY TWO. Got it. I understand. My ID is in my room which is on the opposite side of the water park and two floors up. I go to our family's 2 chairs and wrap in a thin towel and sit. My husband comes to find me and invites me into the "hot tub." This was obviously where everyone else wanted to be. I was grossed out by the number of bathers, the lukewarm water, and chlorine poisoning I was sure I was getting.
All done.
Now, we have done Great Wolf Lodge several times. We only go in winter months. Compared to GWL, Wilderness is COLD and GWL is WARM. The air is warm. The hot tub will boil you. The sun is warm. The water is 84°.
The lazy rivers are about the same, but at GWL, there are waterfalls, so you will be drenched. Wilderness lazy river is better.
Food: Wilderness has a great pizza/taco bar/ burger bar right above the pool area that looks down on the pool area. The food was pretty good. I didn't have a drink there either.
Would we go back? Meh. Only if another event...
Read moreOverall not a bad place, but there's definitely room for improvement. The suites are nice, large and well appointed with comfy beds, full kitchens, living rooms, balconies, and large bathrooms. The handicap bathroom is nice, although the shower stall needs to be wider. It's just wide enough to sit in, but water will absolutely get all over the floor making wheelchair transfers dicey. The staff is mostly nice, though beware, you will be asked to attend a timeshare condo presentation anytime you pass by the guest services booth. One thing that was just ridiculous was the running around we had to do. For instance, we came downstairs in swim attire with shorts, tshirts and sneakers on top. We purchased a day pass for the kids. Some of the activities require closed toe shoes and dry clothes so we decided to do those before hitting the water park. We get to the rope course and we're told no swim attire allowed, not even under regular clothes. It doesn't say that anywhere so we had to go back up to our room, change back into clothes, go back down, do the activities, then go back up to our room, change back into swim clothes and go back to the water park. Once in the water park the wave rider requires a separate waiver be signed so I had to go back out, scan a qr code and fill it out. We went back to the ride, we were then told we needed separate blue wristbands on top of the entry wristbands (she couldn't have mentioned that??) so back out we went. I signed up two kids for the wave rider. I had my son with me, my daughter was on a waterslide. They put the wristband on my son but wouldn't give me the wristband for my daughter. I had to go back in to get her and go back out AGAIN for them to put it on her directly. I was so beyond annoyed at that. At least there's a bar in the pool area! They have a refillable cup for $15 initially and $7 for each additional drink. Without the refillable cup, each drink is $12, so the cup is worth it and can be used for your whole stay. The place is great for kids, but can definitely be...
