I'm new to the area! I moved to Terrell NC a few months ago. I have visited this location many times and have always had a positive experience except for today!I have a 7 year old who I am currently teaching how to use the computer. However I own all apple products so allowing her to use my mac book for leaning is very different from what she uses at school(PC) I have checked out laptops at this location about 3 or 4 times along with books and other learning activities and have always had a positive experience with all the other staff until today.Upon entering the location I noticed the lady CATHERINE OR KATHY (I think her name was Catherine but it may have been Kathy) whom was working the front desk today had a nasty look on her face as me and my daughter walked in. I didn't pay it much mind at the time but proceeded to do what I came to do at the library. I walked up to the front desk to check out a laptop just like any other time I've came in. The lady just bluntly had a attitude towards me and at 1st said she didn't have any. Then she asked for my library card and proceeded to pull out the laptop. I'm like okay just waiting trying to stay calm while interacting with her with my child standing right beside me. She then started to pull out the paperwork that you sign to check out the device and asked for my drivers license which is cool I gave it to her. She kept rolling her eyes and basically acting as if it were a problem to make any eye contact with me. I procced to not pay that any attention or let it alter my joyful mood being that me and my child just had a great fun day in the sun swimming and I knew the library would be a quick stop in and out since we were both tired. She then proceeded to tell me she can't check out the laptop to me because the address listed on my drivers license didn’t match the address on my library card.Like I mentioned early in this post I have checked out from here many times without any issues. Keep In mind that in order to get a library card her I had to bring in mail with a current date (which I did and they have on file) (they made a copy of my mail statement with my new address and a copy of my drivers license and it is all attached to my library account here. I proceeded to tell her I'm aware that my driver license doesn't have my new address but I have brought in mail and they have a copy of it on file. Like all the previous employees told me when telling me about the facility, you only have to bring in mail for proof of address and ID and all that good stuff the 1st time you ever check out a device which I've done and they have. She then told me she sees my new address attached to my account but it doesn't matter because my ID doesn't have my new address and she can't check me out because of that. She said that is there new policy as of Jan 2025 and I mentioned to her I have checked out the same thing the same I way trying to by using my ID and Library card just like I have a few time this year past January of this year(2025)and that has never been a problem since I provided proof of address with a current date and I have never had any problems Checking out being that they only ask for the mail when its your 1st time checking out mobile devices and today clearly wasn't my 1st time so I didn't need all that. She was very unprofessional and biased and I did not appreciate that at all especially the disrespectfulness in front of my child.Every other second she stated a different reason to why I can't check out all because I'm black and it was very clear she had some type of hidden agenda or stereotype that she was placing upon me and she doesn’t even know me.This lady should not be working at the front desk, especially interacting with guests whatsoever with the service she provided to me and child being guest of this facility! I have always made timely return and I've never had a problem. All employees are great but not today! This need to addressed ASAP because being black and treated this way in 2025 is belligerent! I feel bad for anybody who comes in contact...
Read moreThe library itself is very clean and a nice environment. However, the librarians and staff are incredibly loud and rowdy, constantly chatting and laughing very loudly. Does not facilitate a great environment for studying, test taking, etc. Even when using the private study room, you can hear the librarians over noise cancelling headphones. Rather frustrating when a library is supposed to be a calm, quiet...
Read moreGreat library! It's very spacious and always very clean with friendly and helpful staff. My kids love all the technology available and the Children section. There are plenty of computers for patrons and 2 study rooms which I've taken advantage of. It's also cool that they have snack and beverage machines indicating that they aren't picky about eating and drinking in...
