BLUF: Highly recommend. We were extremely lucky to get an impromptu tour from one of the employees, Mr. Dave. He was engaging, funny, a phenomenal story teller and told stories not listed on the walls or plaques. He also brought out the body parts tray for my family to feel, hold, and learn about. I enjoyed the museum prior to the tour but LOVED it afterwards. If you are able to get a tour with Mr. Dave take it!! My family and I went the day after Thanksgiving 2023 at 1130am, plenty of parking, not busy at all. If you were ever in the military, you'll find something interesting. I saw multiple things from my time in the military in that museum. LoL My parents found even more items they once used from their military time in the museum! It was a great trip and a place my kids said they'll want to revisit....as long as we get a tour from Mr. Dave. LoL I really hope this museum does something special & goes all out for Halloween! 🎃 This would absolutely be the perfect place to talk about the darker side of medicine and show the medical displays not commonly seen. Maybe a fog machine, purple and orange lights, creepy lights, MOPP gear displayed in unusual, slightly scary ways! 🕷️ Us retired and active military folk would 100% be down for that! Bottom Line- Go visit, get a tour...
Read moreThis is a wonderful museum that holds so much history and medical information. The museum has free admission and parking. The time spent here can vary depending on your interest. If you look at and read everything, you could easily spend a couple of hours. If you chose to walk through without reading everything, you could do so within a half hour. I would highly recommend this for anyone who has an interest in the medical field or history. The museum walks you through medical tools and treatments used during different wars and times in history along with problems and diseases that were dealt with along the way. The specimens on display help to educate and develop an understanding of how the body works and responses that it has to different elements; blunt force trauma, bullet wounds, infections, amputations, along with so much more. I would highly recommend a visit if you have the...
Read moreThe museum admittance is FREE and I thought it was really well done. I'm not sure who the museum was for given it blends war injuries from the civil war all the way to modern day warfare, but there were some nice small exhibits of old surgical tools, and other things like a cadaver of an elphantitis leg and brain with spinal cord (in tack) and the front desk staff are very nice.
I took the train to Forest Glen and the museum is further than 1 mile from the train exist. Also, somehow uber had the address for this place in the middle of a warehouse down the street (boo uber - you've been terrible all over washington DC), so just know you're in for a REALLY long walk from the train station or a nightmare with uber for pickup if you...
