⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Hidden Gem in Silver Spring - Perfect for Wine Lovers & Friend Gatherings! I recently attended what we dubbed "Winesgiving" at Urban Winery with seven friends, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. This gathering was particularly special as it brought together colleagues-turned-friends, some of whom hadn't all been together since 2020, and the venue proved to be the perfect setting for our reunion. The new location at 2315 Stewart Ave is absolutely beautiful, offering a spacious and welcoming atmosphere with various seating options - from comfortable bar seats to high tops and standard tables. There's even a lovely outdoor seating area. The venue is ideally situated just outside downtown Silver Spring with plenty of parking, making it easily accessible for our group coming from Northern Virginia, DC, and Baltimore. What sets Urban Winery apart is their incredible variety of offerings. While most Maryland wineries stick to their house-made wines, this establishment goes above and beyond. They feature an impressive selection of wines, including bottles from black-owned wine companies, and surprisingly, an extensive liquor collection featuring Maryland-made spirits. As a whiskey enthusiast, I was delighted when Kevin, who handled our reservation, offered a mini whiskey tasting and shared his extensive knowledge about local spirits and how they compare to well-known brands. The service was nothing short of exceptional. Owners Georgia and Damon were present, with Damon personally greeting us early on. Our server Ruthie was attentive, warm, and incredibly accommodating, managing our party of 8 alongside a separate 25-person birthday celebration without missing a beat. The attention to detail and personal touch in the service made everyone feel special and well-cared for. The Mediterranean/Greek food menu was a delightful surprise - everything was well-seasoned and delicious. They even have a food truck on-site for additional options. A unique touch is the craft items available for purchase, made by the owner's daughter - perfect for holiday gifts! What impressed me most was how they maintained both quality AND quantity while keeping prices reasonable. The experience was so remarkable that I'm already planning my return visit this coming Sunday (yes, twice in one week!) and seriously considering joining their Barrel Club, which offers quarterly wine experiences and exclusive member discounts. For those relying on public transport, the upcoming Purple Line will make this location even more accessible. Having moved from their previous downtown Silver Spring location, this new space (open for just over 2 years) offers an elevated experience while maintaining the warm, community feel that makes it special. This is truly a hidden gem that deserves recognition - whether you're planning a special celebration, a casual gathering with friends, or just looking to explore excellent wines and spirits in a welcoming atmosphere. The combination of outstanding service, diverse beverage selection, delicious food, and comfortable ambiance makes Urban Winery of Silver Spring a must-visit destination. It's clear why they can handle both intimate gatherings and larger parties with equal finesse. Pro tip: Don't miss the lamb-chops or the chance to try their unique Maryland-made spirits selection!

Walked in and sat down at the bar to a very busy staff. The environment is very pleasant and romantic but I felt forced to have to be acknowledged and ask for a menu after waiting awhile. Soon after I was acknowledged with a glass of water. They make their own wines which I confirmed are only available on location but do offer at several wine festivals. It would be nice to know if they offer tours. The avocado toast was delicious with a little residual heat but again had to ask staff for a napkin. The Maryland wine selectiom is vey limited on white wine choices but the Silver Spring White was semi-dry and really enjoyed following the recommended pairing on the menu with the toast. I also ordered the wings and was pleasantly surprised with even a little more spice due to the single line drapped over the "spiced chicken wings" with siraracha. I overheard usually they have live music on Friday and Saturday nights but tonight no one would be performing. I was shocked to have the menu taken away to not be able to see future wine choice. There are four beer on tap when writing this review but could support a total of six based on their taps. While sitting here awhile I discovered they do have free wifi but there isn't any history or mission decription about what inspired the owners to start the business. I asked and was told they were open three years but it would be a nice touch on the menu to provide this information. Overall the place is above average but could work on a few things to be even better. Staff were talking and mentioned they were running out of wine glasses which seems a little shocking with the place only half full. The winery seems a little confused on what it wants to be with the wood, brick then dark brown painted cinder block along the bar and restaurant. Will definitely be returning and hopefully my next experience is a little better.

Interesting winery concept - more of a wine bar that makes wine (don’t grow their grapes but buys them from mostly local vineyards). Located in a small industrial area right behind a Silver Spring residential area. A bit tucked away, but google maps and road signs will get you there. We went on a drizzly day, so no one was using the nicely decorated patio. The door cleverly looks like a cooler of wine đŸ«¶ Inside there were 3 seating areas - the bar, a bunch of high tops near the bar, and a bunch of tables along the front wall facing out on the patio. Nice decor & vibe when we arrived as about half the tables were occupied. It a cinder block, concrete building so it got noisier as more tables were filled. No one chose to sit at the bar or high tops. There was 1 woman working her butt off
very efficiently. Can’t speak to the food since we had lunch prior to arrival (see Polka Deli review). However the tapas and especially the charcuterie boards at nearby tables looked delish. Wines are okay to good, a couple not good. These are not meant to be serious wines but support the concept behind a growing trend for urban wineries in cities. Go ahead and google it, the economics are good and there are quasi-franchise backers. That’s not to imply that’s the case here, based on their web info this family has been into it before the trend. What I really like is that they also sell wines that they didn’t make, mostly local wineries and some imports that the big distributors aren’t pushing. You won’t find Yellowtail or 14 Hands on their shelf. The prices were not bad either. They also offer make your own classes and do group events. See their website for details

Urban winery is an elegant, yet relaxed and fun place to enjoy an evening out with friends or family. This trendy spot offers wines made from locally sourced grapes and mouthwatering food to pair with your drink of choice. Part of what makes the Urban Winery experience so unique, is finding it nestled among industrial buildings and warehouses (look for the sign!). Once you find it, there’s ample parking. It’s a family-owned and run business with the owners and family regularly there interacting with customers and coordinating wine tastings. They are nice people with a passion for making wine that goes back generations. There’s a broad selection of wines made from local grapes, each with its own unique flavor and aroma. The blackberry cabernet tasted like the name, bursting with blackberry flavor! Sample wines with flights or choose a bottle to enjoy with your meal. They also offer a large selection of beer and cocktails. The Elderberry-St. Germaine cocktail, for example, was so delicious and memorable, I’ll be sure to order it again during my next visit. The food is equally impressive, featuring meze that complement the wines. Whether you're in the mood for a cheese board or something heartier, you'll find something to satisfy your taste buds at Urban Winery. The menu seems limited at first glance, but visitors soon learn that the appetizer choices are plentiful, the cheese plate loaded with delicious options, and the specialty themed foods add creativity and surprise to the menu. The lamb chops are tender and juicy and the chicken souvlaki served on Greek night was soft, juicy, and delicious. The atmosphere is cozy and chic, with exposed brick walls, wooden tables, and soft lighting. The wide variety of live music and events keep things lively and fun. Urban Winery also has a beautiful, cozy, private patio in the back, where you can enjoy live music when the weather is nice. We especially enjoyed the Greek Night because the beautiful music combined with the lovingly decorated patio made us feel like we were in a real Greek Taverna. Urban Winery is not just a restaurant, it's a destination. Don't miss this hidden gem...
