My friend and I visited the Kinney Azalea Gardens on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in May. There is no cost to enter; however, there is a box near the table for donations towards garden maintenance. It was so beautiful and peaceful. Most of the gardens were in full bloom. There are a lot of benches and chairs scattered throughout the gardens to take a rest and take in the beauty. There is also a quite large and fairly clean porta potty near the MoonGate. Be sure to take a map that is on the table at the entrance because you will need it. Also, on the back of the brochure there is a list of items to find for the Scavenger Hunt. There are several Bistro tables and chairs to have a picnic. So, feel welcome to bring food and drink for a lunch break. Lots of sunny and shady areas throughout the Gardens. Children welcome but no animals allowed even...
Read moreOne of the most beautiful places in South County! Visit the gardens at their peak in early to mid-may. This year, I am visiting multiple times to enjoy the various stages of early azaleas, mid-may abundance and then the combination of more rhododentrons and a few late-blooming azaleas later in the month. I love the painting segment that Mimi Sammis did at these gardens, teaching how to create a painting of azaleas on PBS' Love to Paint with Mimi. I'm also planning to take some photos here with my upcoming book, The Joy of Writing Journal, that we can use for my book launch -- the extraordinary beauty of this place is a wonderful source of inspiration. The colors are incredibly intense and you can feel a sense of nature's vibrancy uplift your being as you walk these magical paths. It's a magical place to bring...

My family and I walk to and through the circular archway you'd get to within about a minute or two and we let the twins walk around a bit to where out of nowhere we hear ferocious barks from two different ways and we both grab a baby immediately. I think it's dogs but as soon as I look up I'm staring down a coyote and it is sizing me up and sniffing me. We walked away without fear and it stayed in position as if to let us know to get out of its territory. This is no way blaming the property this is a warning to stay safe for others. We been here before and never saw this so it was...
