I am and have been a guitar teacher for over 40 years. I have had 2 very negative experiences with Boothe Brothers Music store in Spanish Fork. The first experience, I brought one of my students in to buy a guitar. I was quoted a price and consulted with my students’s Mom and we went to the register and when the guy told me how much the guitar would be, it was $25 more than the quoted price. I asked him why it was not the price that was quoted to me and he just smiled and said nothing… We walked out of the store and I told my student’s Mom I will never buy from them! My second negative experience was just recently one of my students went in to get their strings changed, they charged her $50 (which is way over priced ) and when my student got her guitar back, the action was so low that the strings were buzzing and hitting the frets! I know the guy took shims out from under the bridge saddle to create another job to make more money! I know the action on my student’s guitar was perfect before the strings were changed! I will never set foot and I will tell all of my students and their families to stay as far away from the most dishonest music store I have ever dealt with! Stay far away from Boothe Brothers unless you want to be ripped off and lied to! Update: After speaking with my student, she said to me…” I think you were accurate. Changing the strings is not $60 plus strings like she said. It's $18.00 for strings and $30 to string it. Altogether it was $48.00 plus tax. The manager was wrong. They were just changing the strings. It wasn't setting up the guitar. The man who restrung the guitar said as he handed it to me, " I wish I'd known the action was so low before I strung it, I could have raised the strings. But now that it's strung we could restring it but I'll have to charge you again for the stringing or you can just wait until it needs restringing." Since the action seemed ok before I had them restring it, I decided to just bring it home. I thought he was exaggerating how bad the action was. I'm not sure what to do. I am also paying a monthly fee for my granddaughter to rent to own a cello. I have to deal with them for more than my guitar.” My student is not a beginner. She has taken lessons from me for over 5 years. She bought 2 guitars from you. The first guitar was a steel string acoustic about 5 years ago (costing $500) a nylon string classical about a year ago ($600). Before taking her new nylon string guitar home, the salesmen mentioned he would adjust the action that seemed low by adding shims under the bridge saddle. Yesterday I took the strings off her newly strung guitar (by a tech at your store) and there were no shims under the bridge saddle which means they were taken out by one of your techs. I am a music store owner and have owned stores in California for many years. I know it is difficult to receive this kind of news, in fact , I never leave reviews, but this is something I cannot let pass. I would personally fire the people that were being dishonest in my stores and have some very serious meetings with my employees. The rating stays at one star and if I could, I would give a zero star rating. Consumers beware of Boothe Brothers Music Store in...
Read moreI wasn't sure if I should do even two stars. I bought a good quality flute used after I researched the brand and took it in to see what it would cost to clean it and get it in shape. They assured me that I could get an estimate and get all the information before deciding if i wanted to spend money that might not be worth it because I didnt know that much about the repairs. The few minutes I spent in the store setting it up to send the flute to the repairman, the one owner kept making comments about how people who wanted to have their children play needed to realize it was pricey and they shouldn't even be thinking about musical instruments unless they had money. If you don't have a lot of money your kids shouldn't have opportunities? The third party repairman called me personally and told me in detail what it would take to get the instrument in good shape and that it was worth it, so we went ahead with the repairs. When I got the call from Boothe Brothers that it was done and given a price I went right in. BUT then the price was 1/3 more! The same owner who had made me feel inadequate before was SO horrible about me wanting to pay the price I was quoted and was demeaning and rude in front of the other customers. Now to top it off, a year later, after my daughter has struggled to play this instrument, her band teacher takes a look at it and tells us that the pads were put on badly and other things were repaired shoddily so the flute hasn't played well the whole time.SO . . .money is better than honesty and good work?!?! I will try to not ever go back but they are really the only music store in the area,so I grit my teeth and hope for the best! ( which so far I haven't ever seen...
Read moreThis music shop was a pleasure to visit. I stumbled into it pretty much on accident a handful of months ago and ended up falling in love. They have a wide selection of instruments from ukuleles to guitars to banjos to violins to cellos. They also have all the accessories you could ever want for your guitar/other stringed instrument.
I ended up chatting with the owner and had a lovely time hearing about how the shop is a "dream-come-true" for him. It was sweet and impressive to see how much he cares about the store and providing good service.
Boothe Brothers also does instrument repairs, can install the pins for guitar straps, and many other instrument-related services. If you want one of your instruments looked at, you can bring it in and trust that Booth Brothers will take great care of it.
Another very exciting thing that the store does is host occasional live performances from musical artists and bands as well as having "open mic nights" where patrons are free to go up and sing or play an instrument on.
Overall, this is a lovely shop and a wonderful place to visit. Even if you aren't interested or well-practiced with any instrument (yet), it is an exciting place to walk through to see all the merchandise, and the staff is incredibly kind...
