Dog park is a bit small, but decent. 3 stars because of the people and dog park at 5 to 5:30 pm weekday for our 1st visit. I truly wish this park were divided into 2 sections: one for quieter and smaller and older dogs (and new reserved dogs) and one for the bigger more active dogs. The Pavillion dog park in Greenville is like this. OUR EXPERIENCE: I felt we were swarmed by several dogs, and my dog got intimidated, trying to get away from other dogs, including one who tried to mount my spayed dog. Little to nothing was said to other dogs. Owners were distracted in conversation with each other or on their cell phones. My 2.5 year old corgi-german shepherd has been to dog parks before, and is good with other dogs. After walking around with her, allowing my dog to sniff and acclimatize to the park, one dog in particular continued to pester her, to which I told dog several times to go away. Owner, 20 feet away, simply kept telling her dog "I don't think she wants to play with you" but did no further actions or words. My dog would stay close to me, even hopping on the bench I was sitting on, to get away from the mentioned dog and a couple other dogs. After 30 minutes or so of being there, I noted my dog was drooling, an uncommon practice with her, but is a sign of nervousness in dogs, so we left. SUMMARY: I wish the people who bring their dogs actually watch for cues that dogs give, actions that their dogs engage in, and be a bit proactive in monitoring behavior, encouraging respectful play instead of using the opportunity to be on their phones. And wish this was divided into smaller dogs park (30 pounds or less), older, and a...
Read moreRail Trail 🐕 dog park is large & has the best equipment I've seen in a dog park, including an agility workout section. The problem is that they have no standards for the dogs that come in. They also have no one to control what happens in there.
I walked in with 2 people friends. We had 3 German Shepherds & my elderly Pitt Bull, Balboa..As soon as we entered the gate a very large German Shepherd ran over & visciously attacked Balboa. The owner got his dog away - for the moment. A bit later, while I was working with 2 of our Shepherds, the big dog attacked my Pitty again. Balboa's head & neck were bleeding badly. I got the dog's owners info & took Boa to his Vet. The Vet did $276 worth of work & pain meds. I had trouble collecting the payment but prevailed.
Meanwhile the City denies all culpability as do the police & animal control. So, the park itself is great but ENTER AT YOUR...
Read moreThe park used to be big enough that my large dog could easily run and play without tripping over other dogs. Now he can not only not run to his hearts content, the dog area has been reduced by over half!!! There was talk about putting in a small dog section, but as of today (06/22/2023) there is no secondary section for smaller dogs. Meaning this small space now has to be shared by both small and large dogs putting both at risk. What the hell were they thinking?! They took out the ramp and tires the dogs used to climb on, along with the swing people used to sit on. What was once a nice place to bring your fur baby in now nothing more than a single family homes back yard!!! Spartanburg should be ashamed to even call this a dog park. I will not...
