Synopsis: Please increase the ice rink/lap pool hours and have them overlap more. Make some staff cuts (especially fewer life-guards) to help make this happen. Nice pool and ice rink. They just need to keep them available to members for more hours per week. Figure skaters take up most of the rink during public sessions, even though there is an equal number of hours designated for only freestyle/figure skating as there is for public skating. So 4 figure skaters take up 60% of the rink (during the public session) with 20 beginner/casual skaters trying to stay out of there way, and when some kid skates in one of the figure skaters self-claimed zones, which takes up 15-30% of the rink, the figure skaters' face puckers and twists with entitled resentment. I wish the lap pool times and ice rink times overlapped more than what they do, because I like to use both when I go. Some funds are wasted on too much staff. For example, I've seen 4-5+ life guards on duty at a time with maybe 15 kids in the leisure pool and 4 adults in the lap pool, 1 life guard messing with his phone for 30 min, 2 constantly chatting. Other times I've seen 2 lifeguards sitting in the pool office area while 2 are watching pools. Yet they all still need a 45 min break at the same time, a break from sitting and sorta watching. Make staff reductions where you can and use that money to extend hours members can use the pool/ice rink (especially the ice rink). Many gyms with a pool have no lifeguards at all , perhaps from 7:45pm - 10:00 you could have 0-1 lifeguard and only allow adult members who have signed a waiver to swim during that time.
I'd pay $500 per year to have access to the ice rink and pool for 12 hours per day, instead of $100 (black friday) - $200 per year for my current...
Read moreThis review is not as much for the Jones center but Kruton's Inc. dba KFB Events, which is one of the exclusive caterer's for the Jones Center. Since you are forced to use the caterer, I can't recommend the Jones Center as an event location. We were holding an anniversary party for our parents for about 100 people. KFB Events provided a menu for heavy h’ordeuvres that sounded like wonderful sounding items like Beef Wellington with Béarnaise and Smoke tenderloin bruschetta for $9.95 per person. We instead chose some sandwich style trays and fruit trays with punch and tea. The price was supposed to be $1100 (that’s $11 per person), so you would expect something good right? Maybe some nice breads or wraps with fresh spinach and a mix of vegetables. Name brand sliced meat maybe. Specialty cheeses? Nope none of that. We instead got sandwich trays you can purchase at Sam's for $50 and fruit trays what were no better. All told the food could be purchased at almost any mega-deli for less than $500. But wait you get service right. Nope they tacked on an extra 20% service fee for unloading the trays from a wheeled cart and leaving. They were gone so fast we didn't even get all of the utensils organized. And some folks didn't get tea because the service container pulled a vacuum and wouldn't dispense until someone figured out to pull the lid off. And because of a change in the person handling the order a special request to change the drinks (punch instead of lemonade) wasn't made. All told with taxes it was almost triple the cost with none a single perk of catering. And since it was all paid in advance they weren't motivated to make it right. Very...
Read moreDecently low prices, workers dont really care about you, like at all. They dont hide it. It's relatively nice and the gym is great for the incredibly low price. The pool is great for swimming laps except for the fact that the Mashel Island kids keep jumping in the lap section and ignoring life guards that are telling them they need to go to the swimming side. One kid tried to steal my goggles off my head and then later my towel in the locker room. No idea where the parents are but yeah, wasnt happy little kids were running around unsupervised. The ice rink is what you expect in Arkansas. Glass windows have been broken for over 4 years and the ice is soft because they dont keep the temperature low enough. Also every employee seems to drive the zamboni and none are ever trained correctly. They flood the ice every. Single. Cut. They also dont refill the creases so the ice is unlevel from the hockey games and constantly flooding. This will eventually result in an injury and if that person is aware, they will face serious law suits exactly like the Dr. Pepper star...
