I never try to leave reviews but this location has made me feel the need to do this due to them now not picking up the phone for what is now 30 minutes+ as well as not fixing my issue as early as 5/17-5/18. I’ve tried contacting every department and they all hang up on me just after a few rings. Finally today after multiple tries I get someone to pick up and asked to speak to a manager and the man asked “why?”, I said sir I need to speak to a manager because this is beyond any other team member, I need to go to the manager. Instead of him easily contacting the manager or even putting me on hold he decided to try to tell me that I need to contact the customer service number, I said sir you need to connect me to a manger because customer service is just going to send me right back to this location because this is the location that made the inexcusable experience. For the entire call the man, whose name I now wish I had taken down refused to put a manger on the phone for a concerned customer! So whoever is the manager on 6/11/24 at the time of 12:00 PM, your staff are extremely unprofessional and I will no longer be a customer of Academy Sports. Again, they’ve been dodging my phone calls and I’m never really able to reach a manager to solve this. I recommend anyone who is planning on visiting this particular location to not even waste your time or spend your money! They will serve you a pick up order of used/returned items or perhaps items removed from a mannequin (all calls should be recorded, therefore there is no need to lie—I vividly remember the day I called before placing my pick up order a young lady telling me the item I purchased was likely to be pulled from a mannequin) I said no thanks I’ll wait on the next truck, however, she assured me they had one last pair and it was available for pick up, but here we are with dirty items!!! Unacceptable when I’m actively trying to either exchange or get a refund!. This is unbelievable and honestly unacceptable. People work very hard for their money and for this location and specifically the manager today and 5/18 to still not have found a solution…I have no words other than disappointment. You treat others how you want to be treated and I do not feel this location values and respects their customers. I know this is just a review but for anyone who truly considers effective customer service, please do no go to this location! Read moreThis one is rough. Full disclosure, it was black friday BUT still….
First of all, 3 different employees in the store told me different things. I was in to pick up a treadmill and the store associate i asked first, said the only way was to take a picture of the box, make sure all the barcodes are visible, then take them to the front counter to show them and checkout. Looking at the box there were about 5-7 different barcodes and since I am not trained by the store, I am not sure which one it was.
Genius idea incoming: since technology is great I was thinking I could just buy it for in store pickup and the treadmill was right by the door….. maybe we could load it up ourself and be good to go…. Their app said order now and pick up today, so I thought it would be fairly quick even if we did have to wait our turn to be processed.
I was then told if I cancelled the order, the money would take 3-5 business days to be back to my card. THANKFULLY, it didn’t actually charge my card for the online order so when I cancelled the preauth just fell off.
I asked customer service about fulfilling the online order prior to cancelling and he said “just wait over by the treadmill and someone will help.”
After about 25 min of waiting….. we realized no one was coming over and asked another store associate…. They THEN told me the only way is to cancel and wait in the longgggg checkout line to make the purchase again. Thats all good and dandy….. but we could have been waiting there to begin with instead of waiting for no one to come over to the treadmills. Lol.
The cashier then had no idea how to cancel an online order and so I just had to figure it out myself in the app.
There is a strong need to refine some training and customer service at this store. When 3 different associates all have different answers to a very simple issue….
They also specifically said they cannot load the item but then thankfully loaded it up without question.
Even in today’s age, make an AI training video or SOMETHING.
I generously gave 2 stars because the gentleman i talked to in the sports section actually knew what he was doing and got everything going....
Read moreAnother update I'm sadly disappointed in Academy Sports. I used to shop at Academy because their prices were way better than competitors. That's not the case anymore. They used to have name brands at a fair discounted price as well as another off-brand or store-brand for less. Now the store brands are as expensive as the higher quality name-brand items. I saw a t-shirt in the team sports section for nearly $70 !!! Their shorts and athletic wear off-brand items are the same price (within a dollar or two) of Under Armour and Nike. Why buy the cheaper ones? In fact, why buy any of them when you can get the higher quality ones online for less? Way less! I found better pricing at BassPro even. I would have never guessed that.
2nd update It's great to see ammo back on shelves. Found a decent price on some ammo today. Happy about that but still no change in the size choices in sports apparel.
Update review- Academy is still missing out on sales to plus-sized or big&tall customers. What a shame. The Chiefs are going to the Superbowl and lots of people are shopping for team apparel. I checked out Academy and found they have lots of Chiefs stuff available and price-hiked to sell. However, only a few 2x items and ZERO 3xl or bigger. Tons of smalls and mediums though. Lots of bigger sized people shopping and looking frustrated. Academy (here in SW Missouri) sells hunting, fishing, and lots of BBQ supplies. Do you think there are no big guys shopping in the store? If Academy's buyers can't figure this out... How do they keep their jobs? Wake up!
Original review- I like Academy Sports, I appreciate the price being lower than most competitors. I buy kayak and fishing equipment there more than any other place. But I wish they would carry more sizes above a 2xl in the clothing and especially the sports team apparel. A 3xl isn't an odd or extreme size but is extremely hard to find at Academy. I know many who shop for 3XL team apparel, Academy is missing out on a lot of sales. The 3xl items they do have are the basic logo simple design items. They don't have the fun design or vintage style items they offer in smaller sizes....
