PLEASE READ BEFORE VISITING THIS STORE I'm not a person who typically writes google reviews, however after visiting this place with my husband yesterday something must be said. I have never in my life felt sooo unwelcome to buy from a small business. The moment we walked into rocks & things we were met by an older gentleman which i later discovered was the husband to the store owner. At first he came off as very friendly and just talkative but i soon learned that the he and his wife are sooo focused on someone stealing from them, thats all they care about, so he really wasn't being friendly, he was watching us. We were followed around the store the ENTIRE time we were there. Even when i was going back and forth from one side of the store to the other. I couldn't even talk to my husband myself or ask his opinion at any point because he we was being kind and courteous and talking to the older gentleman the whole time while he followed every move we made and even made some uncomfortable comments towards me and pretty much bashed his wife every other sentence in a "joking" manner. I finally decided on several small pieces to purchase and brought them to the register, which i highly regret now. One of which was a tiny piece of petrified wood that the owners husband picked up off the shelf and showed me. It had a tiny sticker on it that said 18, so i figured what the heck, why not, I'll get it and the tiny thin piece next to it which didnt have a price tag. When the lady finally felt convenienced enough to get off of her computer to check me out she was VERY RUDE and snarky. She asked me "if i was absolutely sure that the piece of petrified wood was $18 because there is a piece in the window this size that has $40 on it, are you positive that you didn't switch tags?" In the most hateful tone i have ever heard come from a business owner. I assured her that her husband picked it up and handed it to me and that was the sticker on it and that the other sliver didn't have a price. She then proceeded to tell me all about what she does to people that steal from her business. How she has called the cops on people several times even one instance she admitted that she had the people tracked down and questioned by the police, and maybe even arrested all for her to realize they put the $150 gem back in the wrong place on the wrong shelf, so those people were completely innocent. Let me say, if that would have been me, there would be a lawsuit brewing. My husband drove us all the way from small town Old Fort to Spruce Pine so i could get some gems for my plant display cabinets. Almost an hour from our home so i really didn't want to leave empty handed but truthfully, i should have. My husband spent $127.03 in their store for them to make us feel like thieves when niether one of us have never stolen a single thing. I should have walked out and not bought a single thing. Both my husband and I are small business owners ourselves, so we understand the struggle with theft and loss, but this was absolutely ridiculous. Do yourself a favor and drive to lake lure, chimney rock, asheville, literally ANYWHERE else and buy your gems. Unless of course you want to be harassed while you shop and accused of theft. I would definitely be very wary going here as a single woman as well, several times i felt as if the older man was ultimately undressing me with his eyes even with my husband standing right there. I will never step foot back in this place and i would give it a 1 star every day for the next year if google would allow me. Rocks and things is full of random trash, dust, and all around just junk. Do better people or sell your sinking business. Someone with a little class and manners would possibly make it...

My sister and I wanted to buy crystals of course and immediately upon entering my intuition was screaming at me. we were greeted by an older man. Normally shop owners will greet you and leave you be, but not him. My sis and I were the only ones in the store and he proceeded to stalk us around the crowded store and kept making conversation despite us making it clear we weren’t super interested in making conversation. At first I thought he was just being nice but even after we didn’t really reply, he KEPT talking and I looked over once and he was staring directly at me. I can’t even describe the feeling I got the whole time in there. There were some very pretty pieces in there but I did not want to spend another second in there.
Don’t give them your business unless you want to feel like a prey animal...

Overpriced, over watched, crowded, messy.
We(friend and I) were greeted by an older gentleman who was apparently the owners husband. He followed us the whole time. And I mean the WHOLE. TIME. We tried to end the conversation 3 times and he literally stalked us within a two foot distance. He kept staring at me and my chest and my legs the whole time. I wanted to vomit, and my friend had to be a barrier between him and I the whole time. He kept telling us about his crazy red headed ex wife (I have bright red hair so he figured it would interest me) and how she was ‘crazy’ and ‘put out’…. We planned on buying rings, orbs, marbles, and a ton of stuff, but we were so uncomfortable that we didn’t want to give them any of our business. He stalked us until we got in the car, and even stared INTO our car. Made me physically ill. I would rather eat aquarium gravel covered in gasoline than go...
