The statues and art throughout the park are gorgeous. There's even a place for golf or tennis courts. there's also a gorgeous fountain along with some other lovely pieces of architecture.
The Muny is an amazing place to go with anyone. Take your parents, grandparents, your kids, your spouse, your boyfriend/ girlfriend. The Muny is the amphitheater in Forest Park. They do some amazing Productions the Muny. if you come early you may get a free seats in the back rows outside. You will need to arrive early to wait in line. So you can wait in line for the seats and maybe get a blanket to lay on, bring some lunch or dinner, and have a picnic outside on the sidewalk with your family or friends. Read moreNow I have been to many a patch of green in my time—some more civilized than others, some more wild than they have a right to be—but I do declare, Forest Park in St. Louis is a bit of God’s own country laid down right in the middle of man’s own hustle. It is not a mere park, sir—it is a republic of peace and pleasure, a democratic wilderness where the squirrel has equal standing with the professor, and the paddle boat with the philosopher.
You see, Forest Park is a place where the people of St. Louis, and those wise enough to visit her, may forget the smoke of the city and remember what it is to breathe without care. It is 1,300 acres of rolling hills, noble trees, lakes with ducks that show no fear, and museums that will put airs in your thoughts and art in your blood.
I took a stroll—no, a ramble—through her paths one fine spring afternoon and found myself among folks of every stripe: young mothers pushing babies who will one day push their own; old men feeding birds with the solemnity of priests; lovers whispering nonsense that means everything; and children tearing through the grass with no aim but joy.
And the jewels within this green crown! The Saint Louis Art Museum stands like a temple on the hill, holding the world’s beauty with the quiet dignity of a gentleman who don’t need to brag. The zoo—why, they say it’s free, and I say it’s priceless. Where else can a fellow behold a lion and not be in mortal peril? And the Science Center—well, if you ever wanted to know how the stars shine or why your toast always lands butter-side down, that’s the place to ask.
Forest Park hosted the World’s Fair once, back when America was young enough to believe it could show the world how it’s done. And I reckon, in that respect, she still can.
So mark my words, dear reader: should you ever find yourself worn thin by modernity, make your way to Forest Park. Take off your shoes, lay in the grass, and listen. The birds will sing you a hymn, the breeze will carry your troubles off like old newspapers, and you’ll remember what it means to be alive.
That’s the truth of it—and if it ain’t, then it ought to be.
— Yours in...
Read moreForest Park is a wonderful destination that brings together history of the city with beautiful landscapes. I love to see how the park changes in each season, and because I enjoy running, I especially enjoy the trail around the perimeter of the park. It's about a 5.5 mi loop that passes by some of the most iconic places of the park. That includes the zoo, the science center, the history museum, and the visitor's center. I always park by the visitor center because the parking is so good. There are trails that go to the art museum and the Jewel Box as well. The Visitor Center includes a cafe, however, for better food options stop by the history museum or the art museum. Central West End is just east of the park, and there are so many great places to dine or snack right there. I also enjoy Comet Cafe for a coffee. It is also very close. And to the west of the park, Kaldi's Cafe has earned awards for some of the best coffee in the country. It's a nice small space where you can sit outside and watch the people go by. The homes along the north side of the park are stunning and maintain their historical appearance from around the dawn of the 20th century. The playground at The Visitors Center is great if you have kids. It is updated and it has some water play during the summer. The playground was designed for toddlers through quite a bit older kids. There are facilities for tennis and pickleball. If you can get a chance to check the schedule, there are often activities going on in the park, such as Shakespeare in the park or free/dicounted movies at the art museum. Everything is basically free to enter, however you may have to pay for special exhibitions if you want to see those. For families, the park is a wonderful destination, but it's also a great destination for people who just want to spend a...
