This is a diamond in the ruff of Northern Virginia; and easily one of the best childrens museums in the area.
The museum is packed full of organized, educational, and imaginative exhibits that teach children about historical farm life while they play.
The best part is the full historic general store, which is an original store that was moved into the museum. It is large, and full of historic products, pretend food, a mail room, scales, and cash register. My son had to be pulled from the store after playing for over an hour. It is FABULOUS.
There is also a barn where children can collect eggs, dress up, milk a cow, and ride/care for pretend horses. Additionally, there are several high quality child-size tractors with a large open space for playing.
The adult section is also phenomenal. It is full of interesting artifacts and information. There is also a very nice gift shop with educational toys and locally made products.
The price is a steal; $4! I have taken my family again and again. It is perfect for rainy/cold days, as there is plenty of space for running around and playing. The staff is attentive and considerate. Outside the museum, you will find a historic town with several original buildings, which is also fabuolous. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
This is definitely a high quality childrens museum. I stumbled upon it with my son one day when we were taking a walk at Claude Moore Park. I have no idea why they don'r market it as a childrens museum, because its the only museum in the area. The national childrens museum is a poor comparison. You will have a much better time here, and spend less money, while learning about local Loudoun history and...
Read moreI recently visited the Heritage Farm Museum in Sterling, VA, and it was a wonderful experience. The museum does a great job of bringing local history to life, especially through its exhibits on farming, daily life, and the agricultural roots of Loudoun County. The interactive displays were engaging, and I especially appreciated how kid-friendly the museum is there are hands-on activities that make learning fun for children and adults alike.
The staff were welcoming and knowledgeable, always ready to answer questions and share interesting details. I also enjoyed exploring the recreated farm settings, which gave a real sense of how people lived and worked in the past.
The only reason I’m giving four stars instead of five is that some exhibits felt a little small, and I wished there were more outdoor areas to explore. Still, the museum is a gem for anyone interested in history, families looking for an educational outing, or visitors wanting to connect with the region’s heritage. I would definitely recommend stopping by if you’re...
Read moreWent there for the dirt day. Had a few activities for kids but no beer/food trailer. It was advertised that the beer/did trailer will be there but when we got there we were told that there won't be any, without any prior communication. Given this was a paid event any such cancellations should have been communicated with an offer to refund the money. Additionally they were very strict about checking for tickets to ensure only paid members were entering. We basically paid money for kids to play with dirt! We traveled an hour to get here but left feeling cheated by the event organizers. Overall Park is nice and general entry is free so I'd not be inclined to pay for such...
