BEWARE THE REVIEWER.
I, personally, have nothing but fantastic things to say about this business and their strudel. I don't have a sweet tooth, but my significant other does. I've had Little Austria's strudel several times; after a dinner at the also-excellent Doner Bistro in Leesburg, and as part of a tasting of a full-on smorgasbord of different types of Little Austria strudel my significant other hinted I should get for her as a birthday present after liking the Doner Bistro dessert so much.
Again, I don't have a sweet tooth. But she does, and she absolutely loves them, and I'll even steal a few out of a case. The couple that runs the Little Austria shop is also always lovely and gracious to interact with, even just in passing. They care about this stuff and it shows.
Onto my main point for being compelled to write a review, though: there's a glaring, prominent 1 star review on this business. I won't go into specifics, but I'll summarize their recent reviews and invite you to judge whether you think that might be from a sane person:
1 star review for an internet Kung Fu training sword because "the handle was misshapen" ... because it was a training sword
1 star review for an ice cream shop because there was "gravel" in their caramel
1 star review for a pho restaurant because they "kept smelling a rotten smell" and the kitchen "did not look like a clean kitchen"
1 star review for an engine swap that, according to the shop owner, never happened
I'm an actual customer of this particular business and I can highly recommend them. I don't think that person is even an...
Read moreI bought a large box of Strudel for special occasion at work. We purchased two flavors, Apple Raisin and Cream Cheese with Blueberry. The staff favorite was the Cream Cheese with Blueberry. My personal favorite was the Apple Raisin. They were both amazing. I won't lie by telling you that I've been to every European Bakery in the DC metro area. But I've had many local strudels in this area, and hands down, these are the best Strudels I've ever had. I have not yet been to Austria personally. But if I ever go, my expectations are very high, for how a Strudel should be.
Also during the ordering process, all of it was very easy and efficient. Berni was very helpful, accommodating and polite. The only thing is, the store front is a little hard to find for pick up, I made a wrong turn, so pay attention to your GPS carefully!
I would highly recommend everyone please try this place. I cannot stress this enough. You will not be disappointed. If you just want to try one before ordering, go over to the Loudoun County Farmers Market on Saturday Morning. They have a booth there. I know that now I have discovered this bakery, I will make it a point to stop by and pick something up each time I head over to the Farmers Market.
Best Wishes to this little store. I hope they thrive and receive the commendations...
Read moreJust found out about Little Austria while on the search for local bakeries to support, and wow, I'm glad I've stumbled upon this gem!
Tucked away in office/industrial complex near Rt. 7, Little Austria is unassuming. In the current stay-at-home conditions, online or telephone orders are the only way to go, but they still deliver big on strudels and friendly service. I ordered a large box (two full strudels), and the online process was straightforward, no fuss. I appreciated the quick coordination for order pickup and the personal greeting when picking up my order.
With 10+ flavor combinations to choose from, it's tough to decide! I went for the cheese & blueberry and the apple, walnut, raisin. The cheese & blueberry is perfectly sweet (aka not overly) and has a great bite with the soft cheese and blueberry mix. The apple, walnut, raisin is also amazing, with layers of cinnamon-y sugared apples, nuts, and raisin strewn throughout - also not overly sweet. Top these with some ice cream or whipped creme, and you're on your way to bliss.
The owners take pride in their business and product, and that reflects in the pastries and customer experience. Definitely ordering again and spreading the word about...
