I am very overwhelmed with Sugar Land Kindred Hospital. As it calls itself a 'intermediate long-term care hospital.' They care for chronically and critically ill patients. They specialize in care to those who require an extended stay in a hospital setting. The facility is beautifully designed and very upscale for long-term care and ICU. The facility from inside and outside has been kept and maintained very clean.
My 80-year-old Mom was transferred here from Methodist Hospital after she suffered from the complications of pulmonary fibrosis and being a victim of Covid-19. When I entered into the building to visit my Mom, I had a lot of questions and doubts regarding the facility after reading several of its questionable reviews on google. But at the same time, I wanted to keep an open mind and hope the best for my mom’s recovery.
On my every visit to my mom, I have learned that all of the staff members are very kind-hearted, knowledgeable, and cheerful. After my second and third visit, all the Sugar Land Kindred staff members knew me and greeted me with my name. My Mom has been in this extended care unit for almost 5 weeks and I feel that she has been given the very best care in a family-like atmosphere. The staff are friendly, attentive, helpful, and very caring like a family member.
My special thanks to Tess and Salvador who are amazing physical therapists and are helping my mom to get back on her feet and to start walking. Also, a very special thanks to Sephora for helping my Mom with occupational therapy and putting big smile on her face every day. All the nursing staff are very energetic and knowledgeable. They are alwaysready to take care of patients every moment. Above all, their patient relation specialist, Ms. Marie who made a regular visit to my Mom’s unit on daily basis to make sure if everything is okay with the treatment and the services that is being provided at the Sugar Land Kindred. Mr. Doshi, is the radiology manager, is in charge of overseeing my mom’s treatment and help with any support if needed. He visits us daily and also makes sure that we all are doing well. The director of the case manager has been very helpful to us.
Last but not the least, very special thanks to the chief operating officer, Ms. Hala who takes a lot of pride of her team and facility, believes in family member’s involvement in every patient’s recovery. During this Covid-19 pandemic, she made sure that at least one of my family members to be involved in my Mom’s recovery on daily basis. This means a lot to us.
I certainly would highly endorse and recommend Sugar Land Kindred, if you find yourself or your family member in need of a reliable extended nursing care facility...
Read moreI selected this place because of the recent good reviews it got...I don't think it's accurate because, while most of the staff is good, the ones that are bad are abysmal. When my wife was first admitted to Kindred, it was chaotic. When we arrived, the admitting nurse was running around the place and it seemed like they were caught off guard. She would start a task and leave it mid-way and move out to something else. Then leave that task incomplete and leave the room, come back and not explain what she was doing. Meanwhile my wife is freaking out because she doesn't know what is going on. As if that wasn't enough, the nurse is trying to make jokes about the situation and nervously laughing when she doesn't get the obvious response from those of us watching this unfold. After getting through that horrible experience, things got better. We met some great nurses, respiratory therapists, and doctors who clearly cared about my wife's well being and cared about getting her stable so she could move on to rehab as soon as possible. That however, was short circuited by some of the less caring staff; specifically some of the respiratory therapists. Apart from having to deal with the injury my wife suffered and not knowing what is going to happen to her long term, we had to constantly deal with unprofessional medical staff (RT's mainly). This unprofessionalism had a real impact on my wife's progression to rehab. She developed a serious infection while in their care (or lack thereof) and, as a result, the top rehab facility in Texas ended up pulling back on her admission. Prior to this incident, the entire family was very excited because of the feedback I had relayed to them from the rehab facility.
Prior to this, I had never dealt with medical staff and, I will say, I have met some of the most caring and genuinely nice people I have ever met; they care about their patients and the family. On the other hand, seeing some of the behavior at Kindred Sugar Land worries me; their lack of respect towards their patients, family members, and profession is appalling. Some of these people don't deserve the privilege to care for others and bring joy and comfort for the sick.
Overall, it was a bad experience that was made tolerable by the nurses, doctors, and RT's that genuinely cared for my wife, her 2 sons, and me. My wife has a long recovery ahead and I hope that down the road we're able to look back at this experience as just that, a bad experience made tolerable by...
Read moreWe are infinitely grateful for everything Kindred Hospital Sugarland has done for my friend Ms. G. Ms. Chelsea Stout-Potter, the ARU Clinical Rehab Specialist/Patient Liaison at Kindred went out of her way for my long time friend Ms. G. who was under the best rehab care after a massive CVA on her right brain a couple months ago. Ms. Chelsea is a God’s sent, she kept us posted on daily base during the process of transferring application and approval with Kindred Hospital. I was with Ms. G. for a whole week from morning till the visiting hours is over (9:00PM). I witnessed firsthand how this hospital treats their patients and help them regain their speedy recovery with skills, care, and warmth. Ms. Chelsea went out of her way to make sure that Ms. G. got the proper admission approval experience at Kindred Hospital Sugarland. After Ms. G. was admitted, The full staff went out of their way to make sure that Ms. G. was treated respectfully. They were very kind to Ms. G. in every way and work diligently to make sure Ms. G felt comfortable, encouraged Ms. G. to reach her goal and help her in every possible way to speed up her recovery at all times. Ms. Vidhu – the ARU director as well as case manager discussed various ways to help transition plan on the first day of Ms. G’s stay at Kindred, she tours ward and talks with Ms. G. and other patients to understand their need and feeling everyday, She makes everyone feels at home !! Dr. Mike (Michael Abdelsayed) is such a 24 K gold doctor. He did everything that I can imagine a doctor would do. He listens, he acts quickly, he answers questions patiently (including some very silly ones), he visits frequently, he encourages, and he truly cares!!
All the therapist (Mr. Neil, Sammy, Ramirro, Rameez, Ms. Kay, Ruth and others whom I did not get chance to work with but heard from other visitors of Ms. G.) are top notch. They care and they work hard to help my friend Ms. G to move forward to reach her speedy recovery.
The full staff are amazing. Everyone is so kind and nice. The entire nursing crew and case manager are able to navigate and get things done and we are so grateful to everyone who is giving a chance to my friend Ms. G a boost in her recovery from massive stroke. We are so blessed having you- Kindred Hospital Sugarland. Thank you...
