We had a blast climbing a full day with Paddy at the Calico Basin at Red Rock, NV. From the start he was very friendly, accommodating, and welcoming. The night before our reservation, he made sure to call and go over details in full and communicated the summary of our conversation over text (very helpful so we didn’t miss any details). Before we started, Paddy spent an ample amount of time going over safety measures and proper techniques. Paddy’s instructions were clear and concise, and he patiently answered all of our questions in great detail. He took safety very seriously - This gave us great comfort and reassurance knowing we were in safe, knowledgeable hands. We are thankful to be paired with a positive, energetic, and enthusiastic guide who made our day exceptional. Especially since we are relatively new to the sport (and this was our first outdoor guiding experience), we really appreciated Paddy’s level of excitement and encouragement. He inspires others to feel the same. You could tell he is really passionate about his job and wants to go above and beyond to make sure we’re happy, and our goals are met. Here’s a goofy poem I wrote to summarize the day: Climbing rocks that are Red 2 Gumbies, helmets on head Early start to the day Carolyn on lead belay Paddy climbs to the top Secures rope for the drop Steph ties in with dressed knots Starts to climb as Matt snaps shots Grabbing crimps and juggy holds Anticipating how this unfolds Meters high we reach a ledge Sweeping views reward our pledge Paddy belays more spicy sends Shows us wildflowers around the bend What a fun day that we had For 2 Gumbies who are not half bad! To our new friends we say cheers Count on us for next round of beers!

We had an amazing experience working with Ting Ting in Red Rock through TMG. It was everything we hoped for and more! We left our 2 day experience feeling confident in rope rescue skills and our climbing abilities. As 2 female trad climbers, it was a truly inspiring experience to learn from and climb with such an accomplished, humble and insightful guide like Ting Ting. She maintained a perfect balance of patience and efficiency during her instruction. Ting Ting started by laying out the basic principles of rope rescue: transferring loads, going up, going down, and always having a backup. She then went on to teach us other helpful skill of self rescue. On the second day, we climbed Epinephrine with her. We led most of the pitches, allowing us to have extremely educational conversations with her during the belay and giving her the opportunity to clean our gear and comment on our placements. It was an amazing experience that I would highly recommend to everyone!

My friend and I have been climbing together for about 5 years, and like to get guides for objectives that are within our toproping ability but just a bit too much for us to consider leading. We reached out to Joel during a Red Rocks trip last week as we were looking to climb the classic route Epinephrine. He connected us with Gary Neymeyer, who wanted to meet us a couple days before to get to know each other and talk about the climb, which we thought was a great idea. Gary was amazing on Epi! Leading 120m of rope up 2500ft is no mean feat but he did it efficiently and strongly. My friend and I have been climbing together many years but couldn’t have taken on that route on our own - Gary gave us the opportunity to experience it together in a relatively low stress fashion and it was extremely memorable. We were 12 hours car to car. We will reach out to him again on our next trip!

We had a few goals when we booked our guiding experience with The Mountain Guides for Red Rock. My husband had a goal of climbing Solar Slab (Nevada, Red Rock Conservation) clean and strong. He wanted the experience to be one that when he completed the climb, he would feel more than accomplished, he wanted to feel good, not wiped out. He trained for one year, with cardio, hiking, and climbing. We also had a goal for us to do a family day of climbing with a guide. My goal was to have fun, LEARN, and feel solid in my climbing. I am a curvy girl climber, I don’t fit the visual mold of what a rock climber might look like. I also have a bit of trepidation with heights. But I love the feeling of doing something that doesn’t seem like it is possible. Our guide Matthew Koenig was the absolute perfect guide for both of us. He helped John to CRUSH the Solar Slab climb. John came off that climb feeling more than accomplished and rested, he felt skilled, happy, and energized for bigger projects. Matthew listened to me, heard me when I said I was open to feedback. His instructions were clear, kind and so informative. I am an experiential learner and need a more hands-on approach. He is an accomplished teacher and guide. His climbing feedback had me climbing a 5.8 CLEAN on our family day. In addition, he inspired confidence in me so much, that we booked an additional day of climbing for me to do a multi-pitch climb. Overall, it was beyond what I had expected from a guiding experience and now we are committed to booking with The Mountains Guides as our go-to...

Joel, I cannot thank you enough for guiding my kids, keeping them safe, being a great teacher, and giving them such amazing experiences. Last year, my kids (17 and 19) wanted to make the transition from indoor climbing to outdoor climbing and so we planned two separate trips to Las Vegas (to accommodate different school vacations) to climb with The Mountain Guides. As a mom, I was really worried at the prospect of my kids doing multi-pitch climbs their first time out of the gym, but honestly, I was immediately put at ease by Joel. First of all, I spoke to him many times on the phone before booking; he was patient with me and addressed my million questions. When we started our first day at Red Rock, Joel's calm and thoroughness was reassuring, and his knowledge base/experience in both climbing and the local environs was apparent. My son and I had two amazing days (he climbing, me photographing) and then I brought my daughter out two months later. I have total confidence in Joel and he is just an all-around nice guy. This year I brought my son and his friend back to Red Rock for another couple of days with Joel, and the boys completed a 7-pitch 5.9. This normally nervous mom loved watching the climb! I highly recommend Joel. The fact that we hired him for three separate trips (2-days each) speaks volumes. Thank you Joel for your guidance and creating great memories...
