I gave this review one more star than I intended, just because of the kind staff, and because I have so many memories of the library, when I first came to Dane County over twenty years ago. I remember an efficient, warm-lit, and inviting place, well planned for everyone to find a place to study, read, play, and sample materials. It had a stately look as a learning institution that set itself apart from all the other county branches.
I am NOT a fan of the Sun Prairie Public Library remodel at all. Why they thought they needed to update the inside of the building to emulate Pinney Library location, or Downtown Madison, is beyond me. It's going to be way too bright in there, too compact, and I feel like the current assignment of reading materials and electronic media is complete chaos. I can't find any titles or materials I want.
Granted, the chaos is a temporary thing, as yes, the construction is still underway - but in my opinion, a remodel was unnecessary. Save the money for restoration, not a...
Read moreThe building is nice, but staff are extremely rude to kids and their parents!! We went to the story time today, and the kids were all like 2 and under, and many of them would go up to the front stage (though they were supposed to). None of the other parents got scolded when their children came up. When one child (a person of color) went up too close once, her mother called for her and was already about to go get her and bring her back to her seat, the story teller rudely said out loud “you need to get her” and said nothing ti the other white child’s mother. The other child was right next to the darker skinned child. A few of us saw it happened and weren’t happy with how that mother was treated…it was really disappointing to watch. I’m not surprised though…after seeing the negative reviews the staff are just rude to everyone…not sure how they keep their funding with...
Read moreThis library has really gone downhill. It used to have an amazing children's section with excellent children's programming and now they essentially have nothing. The kids no longer want to go here. I understand there's construction, but it doesn't require them to stop serving their constituent population. Also, they have canceled digital services, like Hoopla. Access to digital resources is vital for accessibility and to remove that and instead spend resources on a bigger building is disgusting. They are aiming to serve only one population - the able-bodied. They aren't buying audiobooks, and especially not queer or diverse audiobooks for adults, so I am left with very little to listen to. I have switched to the Stoughton library and I encourage you to go to another library if you are looking for good children's...
