Deserves zero stars. If you have a have a pre-paid funeral through Cusimano Family Colonial Mortuary in Mt. View, CA - BEWARE when dealing with Lima & Campagna. (They purchased the pre-paid contracts from Cusimano.) I contacted them in January 2024 to make arrangements for my aunt's funeral. I may have been the first person to contact them about a Cusimano contract because Joe Lima was completely flustered and unprepared. Rather than have my aunt's records in front of him before speaking with me, he kept asking me questions I would have no way to answer. He referenced cremation which I never said, because her arrangements were for a funeral. He needed to confirm the amount of money in her trust account and because the trust company was closed that day, he suggested he give me the phone number so I could call them the next day. I asked him to do it because surely that was his job and not a grieving customer's. He gave me a preliminary quote about double what the pre-paid contract was for. I didn't know anything about pre-paid funerals and thought it seemed odd that it would be a different amount. We needed out of state transport, and even with those costs it should have been less that his initial quote. Due to his lack of compassion and professionalism, I went to another funeral service. They confirmed Lima was supposed to quote the pre-paid funeral contracted price. Joe Lima told me that the money in the pre-paid trust account could be used at any funeral home and it didn't have to be Lima. I found that very disturbing and asked if he was saying he didn't want our business. That was a very off-putting thing for him to say. The new facility I went to, confirmed it was true and the new place could access the money in the trust account for arrangements through their business. Joe Lima then tried to claim a 10% fee from the trust company for doing absolutely nothing but providing an extremely upsetting experience. Luckily, the new company put a stop to that after I told them I didn't want Lima to have a penny of my aunt's money. IF YOU ARE A CUSIMANO LEGACY CUSTOMER: Lima is supposed to provide the services listed in your contract at the rate in the contract. If you go with another company, have the new funeral service inform the trust company that Lima is not entitled to a 10% cancellation fee. That would have been due to Cusimano if you cancelled the contract when Cusimano was in business. Lima has no right to collect 10% of your trust account, be sure to let the trust company know that before Lima tries to get that money without even informing you.
We went with another company in San Jose and the total cost came out to less that the Lima preliminary quote. I would never recommend this place to anyone, especially Cusimano customers. Such a shame to have Lima associated with Cusimano since they were a wonderful part of Mt. View history. Please make sure you understand what Lima's contractual obligations are don't let them offer...
Read moreDon Lima and his team were some of the most personable people I had the pleasure to work with. Our church shared that they’ve used their services over the years and recommended us to them. I still wanted to have my own final opinion so I met with a total of 5 funeral homes. It’s an icky feeling after a loved one has passed when a funeral home pulls up a PowerPoint attempting to sell a package plan filled with jewelry and video montages that you don’t ask for. Or when they charge for every little detail. Lima & Campagna, on the other hand, were genuine in their condolences and weren’t trying to monetize my grief. They’ve accommodated my family in countless ways, considering our cultural customs and working around obstacles with the discharging hospital and delays from the cemetery. I can’t thank them enough for their helping hand, patience, and kindness. Truly a light during a dark time! Also we used both their small and large venue and they are...
Read moreThey did a good job and made everything easy for us. They handled my brother in law's Russian Orthodox body preparation, casket, body viewing for the family and priest, transport to the church for an all night open casket vigil and transport to his grave for burial the next day very well. All in time for his 2nd day vigil with burial on the 3rd day after death.
They are on the ball and took care of everything very rapidly, professionally and politely despite not having any advance notice or planning for this event.
The cost was just under $7000. That seems very expensive to me but given I lack experience or a reference for funeral home services, we lacked time to comparison shop and needed someone who could deal with orthodox practices the price...
