This market has a delightful variety of produce, but the quality is hit-or-miss.
Every time I go, I have to inspect every fruit or vegetable because there is often mold, and sometimes flies around some rotten fruit. I don't know how they store the food, but they might want to look into the different needs of different foods.
That said, the food is locally grown as far as I can tell, which is a huge plus because it means the food hasn't been degrading in a truck cross-country. Some of the items are larger than in a typical grocery store (one carrot would be the equivalent of 5 Publix carrots). I always leave feeling like I got more food for a lower price than anywhere else.
I don't like having to deal with the New Agey false health advice like "detoxing" (which is not a real thing) or the claims that sour sop cures cancer (the first thing an employee said to me on my first visit--it doesn't cure cancer and it's unconscionable to try to sell food this way) or that organic food is healthier (it's not) or doesn't use pesticides (it does, and more toxic ones than conventional farming), but I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt and assume that whoever runs the store is just extremely gullible and not maliciously trying to cash in on the food fads.
If you look outside the produce, the prices start to skyrocket for no real reason. My guess is they physically go to another store and buy it off their shelves, so they have to hike the price.
If you don't mind going to multiple places while you grocery shop, this is a good supplementary place for your produce and you could get a lot of bang for your buck, but I'd also prepare to go to another place for the items that will surely be either missing or highly priced.
It's definitely worth going, but maintain a healthy skepticism and check everything before putting it...
Read moreI don't understand why everything is so overpriced here you go to whole foods and you find stuff for way cheaper than here that's ridiculous to me when whole foods is supposed to be a bigger chain. These guys claim that they're a farmer's market and if they are locally sourcing their stuff then why are they overpricing everything? I literally just bought a tiny watermelon for $15. You can literally go to those outside farmers markets and even sometimes in Walmart or Broward meats you can find them large watermelons for about $10 and these are seated watermelons we're talking about. On top of that you have pretty much the same size watermelons but because they are different weights they price them differently this has to be a joke right I've never heard that I mean yes don't get me wrong if they are all around the same size they all price for one base price. Once again I can go to the farmers market and get one for like 10 to $12 and it's double the size. You guys are price gauging here that is the issue I think that a certain city official needs to be reached about this. It's not like you guys are getting watermelons that are made out of gold they're literally from Guatemala. These watermelons easily should be 7 to 10 dollars just like you find at Walmart. Whoever's doing the pricing here should really be ashamed...
Read moreI had been a long-time shopper at Brothers since they opened. Today, I had an unfortunate experience. As I went to check out, using the card reader; when the machine solicited input, I instinctively reached for the stylus. Unfortunately, I grabbed the wire which was next to the terminal instead, and as I did that it must have dislodged and disconnected the keypad.
I was embarrassed by this and apologized to the cashier (Oscar), saying that I messed up. He responded with a "You most certainly did.". Needless to say, this made me feel worse as none of this was intentional. Even if customers make a mistake, calling them out is not any way to foster a long-term relationship. A better response would have been to say nothing, or "It can be fixed".
I tried sharing this experience with the manager, but they were not available to address...
