Visited 9/1/24. We had an excellent time. We were the last tour of the day and our guide was Mark. As with most tours, the guide makes the tour and Mark did an incredible job. He is knowledgeable on the ship, the history of the ship, and the history of sailor (having been on Great Lakes and Ocean ships for 33 years). He clearly has a passion for the topic and a fun personality. This makes for a great experience. Being the last tour of the day we got some extra time and were able to see some of the ships mechanicals in greater detail. Unlike most tours, this tour takes you everywhere. Pilots deck, engine room, mess hall, ballast tanks, sleeping quarters. Truly interactive. Can't recommend it enough. It made for a great end to our summer. Thank you Mark and team at...
Read moreWe had Marty as our guide. He seemed knowledgeable about the ship and was doing an okay job until he brought up "how he didn't like unions" and how he crossed a picket line. His personal beliefs' had nothing to do with the ship itself or it's history. He also brought up an incident about someone on the mini golf course, was upset about sounding the horn and scaring a young child. Marty said police were called because the man was beating on the ship with a golf club. Our tour took approximately an hour and a half. We indented to go catch the mansion tour but were unable to because of the unnecessary stories that he was sharing. Maybe next time we'll catch the mansion tour, unless Marty is the guide. He told us how he is a guide...
Read moreWe took the tour and highly recommend it (tours are every hour on the hour). The guide was knowledgeable and shared interesting tidbits about the boat and the time period. We got to walk all over the ship and get a glimpse of what it would've been like to live and work there.
Fair warning: be ready to climb some ladders. Also: the guide mentioned that it can get very hot on the boat, up to 120 degrees on a hot day. We were there on a cool day, so it was fine. But if you're looking for something to do on the hottest days of summer, this is not it. Save it for the other 11 months of the year (or at least call the museum before...
