Something to be said about the little gems you find dotted throughout the greater Tacoma area. Defiant Fox Games is absolutely one of them. Nestled within the depths of one of the lower floors of the Freighthouse Square historic station, this toy, game, and collectibles outlet features a wonderful trove of nostalgia, delight, and joy.
The biggest foci of the shop seem to include a mixed bag; Trading card games, Board games, Video Games, and Collectibles.
On Trading card games: their selection of singles is vast, but inaccessible except via requesting lists of cards via their discord server. Not an ideal solution, but they're constantly working to improve the turn time, and hope to eventually feature a case for cards to be on display. Sealed product for Magic is pretty well-stocked for the lastest few sets, but as many are experiencing, the stock may be hit or miss at any given time. This is more an issue of Wizards of the Coast and product availability and less so of the shop itself.
There's also a healthy group of casual commander players and a small scene of competitive magic players.
On Video Games: You won't find the latest-greatest here. That's not what the shop specializes in. You will find a wonderful selection of systems, games, accessories, and consoles from more nostalgic times, such as Game Boys, N64's, Wii's, etc. If you need an old piece of gaming history, there's a chance it is here.
On Collectibles: Not my specialty, but from what I can see, they have a pretty good selection of collectibles from many niches and fandoms. Worth a shot if you're looking for something unique.
On Board Games (To include tabletop RPG's): I've always been impressed by the selection. They have a large variety, decent pricing, and are always looking for reasons to chat about their favorites.
On Trading In: I swear, they always are processing new trade ins, from all aspects of their fandom. They are fair and honest about their buy rates. I often trade in magic cards for credit, and recently got lucky on picking up a Wii from them that had just been traded in.
All in all, a wonderful place to be. Community is key here, and the atmosphere is always a...
Read moreI'm not sure what's going on at this place. I've never been there till recently when I called asking if they bought bulk cards. The guy seemed super nice on the phone but when I went there in person the place just looked trashy. Boxes on the floor and just looked like a hoarder lived there. I ended up never going inside the store mostly from the outward appearance I got from just looking in the windows. I'm not sure if they are remodeling or what but it just didn't look like a clean or pleasant...
Read moreThis store looks nothing like the pictures anymore. The store is filthy, the floor is littered with boxes and there is a faint odor to everything. Went in looking for DND 3.5 books but left without even really looking because everything had a stench and it was hard to even walk to the wall where the books were. No idea what's going on here, clearly was taken care of at one point given the pictures posted here, but this place is a...
